topic Element number codes in Project data & BIM

I use Cadimage keynotes and have developed a 6 digit number code for elements and drawing notes. I also use Cigraph Archiquant and it used a number code for it's elements. The energy calculators in Archicad also use numeric codes. Wouldn't it be useful if elements such as concrete slabs could use the same number codes, instead of having to create new ones for each piece of software.

Am I dreaming?

The IFC Classification Reference feature that is new in AC16 may offer a solution to this. These Classification References can be custom or you can use the Apply Predefined Rule button to assign standard category classification to any construction type element. They can be based on various standards like Omniclass, Uniformat etc. the supported standards vary with the localized AC version.
