Hi,

A little technical problem which can be really annoying. Can anyone shed some light on it? I've searched longtime with no solution yet. I've once copied an automatic updating zone and paste on my projet, it turned out the same problem...

Thanks a lot.

Maybe there is something wrong with that zone instance.

It's the same. But I found out that you have to choose a particular type of zone so that it updates automatically - in my version AC11 Fr - n°20 zone jour 02. All other types have to update by selecting them and update manually ...

I once in my work forget to update some surfaces and I was asked if the surfaces were corrected ?!$ù

Well, I hope the posterior AC version will improve this.

Actually this depends on how the GDL script of the Zone Stamp is written.
If you go to the Area Calculation panel of the Zone Settings Dialog, you can see the Measured Area. Some Zone Stamps display that value and it will update if you modify the zone polygon.
Other Zone Stamps display the Calculated Area which is updated only with the Update Zones command.
Some Zone Stamps are using one method or the other, there are probably differences in the localized versions too.

My 2 cents,

I found that zones created automatically are trouble, they will return to whatever automatic settings were used as the base condition. Very logical, right?

So my problem was that I custom changed the zone boundary to a non-reference line limit, then the recalculate function reset them to the reference line (of course)! Losing all my work.

Drove me nuts until I realized my error, now I never use the automatic or default zones. Because I always find some corner or shaft, etc. that needs a little tweaking. Hence never an automatic zone again!
Are you aware that some information needs to be updated by the command Design/Update Zones? For instance, in the international zone there is the calculated and measured area. The first one takes Trim to Roof-actions and door-insets and so on into affect. But this only works after the Update Zone command. So when you stretch such a zone the Calculated area is not updated, the measured are is.

Masterscript,
You are right, "Update Zones" command is the correct syntax for a zone "recalculation".

I would really like it if the zone command could be used to quickly set a zone based on reference lines, but then arbitrarily alter the boundaries. What happens currently is that the "Update Zones" will reset itself to the reference lines, so your only option is to create a custom zone to start with.
You can change the type of zone once you have placed it.
So use the automatic zone to initially place the zones.
These will automatically update with "Update zones".
Then if you find you have to manually adjust a zone just change it's type from "Reference" to "Manual" and now it will not update with "Update zones".
