Received a call from a friend who saw my post. Said to check and make sure Snap Grid was turned off. Sure enough, it was turned on. Turning it off, snap points appear, 'On' they won't.

Wouldn't have been a display driver since it worked fine in 8.0 on the same Mac (with the Snap Grid off :>)

Upgraded to 8.1r2v2 in August from 8.0 and have 3 things that just don't work right as they did in 8. Will submit as 3 separate questions.

Special snap points don't appear as I hover over over a wall/construction and the pointer changes to a mercedes - except once in a while, and even then you can't get it to repeat. The correct button is selected in the Control Box palette, and changing settings (half/%/division/length) has no effect either.

Any ideas? Does 8.1 special snap points behave different? Maybe a Mac thing? I didn't upgrade the PC, so can't check it out.
Thanks all...

I haven't had or heard of any problems with this. It could be a display driver issue, though it seems strange to affect 8.1 and not 8.0.

Quite logical, as the edge of your element, and especially your special snap points, are most probably NOT on the grid ...

Anyway - I would advise to keep the grid OFF at all times, except in rare occasions when everything is on grid. Never had that case in my life ...

Precision is best achieved by using coordinate input, not the grid.
