'Scale with Plan' fills will actually scale, or resize, with the plan (or any viewpoint for that matter). That is if you change the scale of the viewpoint, the fill will appear to shrink or grow with it.

'Scale Independent' fills are independent of the scale, in that they will always remain the same size, no matter what the scale of the viewpoint is.

You can see the differences in the Fills dialog box. Scale with plan will use 'real world' measurements (eg. 180mm spacing) and they will always measure that when the scale of the viewpoint is changed. Scale independent will use layout measurements (eg. 1.8mm), which is the actual dimension when measured once it's been published, say to paper.

Clear as mud?

Cheers,
That's one of the things in AC that I still have trouble getting it right. For some reason, "scale independent" always seems like it should be the real world measurement, and "scale with plan" change its size according to scale of the plan in the layout..

This and the "line types of construction elements above and below home story" in the project preferences...never seem to get them right..
yeah i have the same problem i post the fill question every time i have sth important (dont tell anyone about that )
though as far as line types are concerned i think that until v.9 it was simple enough -> when you have sth in story 1 for example when you select it to be shown one story up it takes the line type of what you selected in above line type
and when you select it to be shown one story down it takes the other one

although in v.10 and after with this automatic thing its really hard
it depends on the floor plan cut plane and archicad decides what the line type will be, projected, cut, projected with overhead etc.
but it doesnt seem right every time
what if you have a story with two different levels ???

its really frustrated !

anyway thanks a lot for the understanding!!!!
