yeah that's it - i think something with in the file terminates or malfunctions.. probably in response to something i do if no one else has the issue! ha ha - typical user error!

i've never heard of this "don't try this at home.. mode" and no - it doesn't even show in the axonometric view..

It has happened twice over the last two days.. i think whilst playing with windows.. i think!

Hello everyone!

My model has now quite complex and I am sure has reached quite a glutenous fie size..

Over the last 2 days whilst working on the project, any sought of 3D View in the 3D Window disappears – (and not from moving the cameras to some ridiculous view point).. The only way to recover it is to reopen the back up plan and go back a few minutes/hours/ work depending when I last save and hoping that I haven’t saved over the back up.. Is this a prevalent problem or just a program with the user and not the software.. it is quite disconcerting and plenty frustrating!

Any ideas or suggestions that you may have?

Would love to hear your thoughts, as per usual - if you get the chance or if this topic is relevant to you at all!

Cheers,
Chrissy

mmm..excuze me .. but not getting it ..

so because its HUGE its taking time ? or its just not showing?

if its just not showing you can try couple of things to be sure of the problem

- try both perspective and axonometric
- try to select a marquee 3D view
- mmm..don't try this at home " but sometimes i would do that only for exporting to other 3D programs .. i would switch to internal 3D engine with wire frame view so its fast and then i export it "

but if its just that the model is HUGE and you want some tips... there is the
ArchicadBigBuildingWhitePaper.pdf

<LINK_TEXT text="http://www.archicadwiki.com/Big_Buildin ... ePaper.pdf">http://www.archicadwiki.com/Big_Building_Whitepaper?action=AttachFile&do=get&target=ArchicadBigBuildingWhitePaper.pdf</LINK_TEXT>

hope this will help

I almost feel like AC Gets tired and just says "no!"

I have tried the below points - apart from exporting it - but doing that would defeat the whole purpose of modelling in archiCAD.. the project is only mid way through.. and it shouldn't be the file size because reverting back to the back up plan usually does the trick assuming i haven't saved over it with the 'tushy' version.
nooo !! i mean when i need to export the model for rendering or so.. and its too huge to deal with in Archicad and i don't feel like waiting just to export .. so i would just turn to the " don't try this at home ..mode "

ok..so its trashy... are you able to see the model in any of " axonometric - internal engine ? "

so its not about size..its about something wrong happened to the file...

sorry ... it happens !!! but it could be fixed once you know what elements or layers are causing the problem

Hey guys!

All the filter settings are correct and yeah I use the marquee - i use that the majority of the time to speed up the work flow..

It is a strange one.. that is for sure! I am glad no one else has the issue - and at least it is forcing me to archive the project and back it up more regularly - thats for sure!

I have also been having this problem, i can see my model fine in axonometric but when i switch over to my perspective 3d view i get nothing. I tried switching to internal engine, switching 3d window settings, saving and re-opening the file does nothing, tried using marquee and F5 even tried selecting an object in plan and hitting F5 but nothing. I am pretty much doing the same thing that chrissy is doing, closing my current ArchiCAD instance and losing the last hour of my work.

The last time that the perspective disappeared i was trying to locate a window with Find command in 3d perspective and when i hit the + to pick up my window with the correct ID it seemed to zoom out a million miles. I have seen it happen on another machine when we were in a live section someone hit F3 and it clicked over to the 3d window. It appeared for a mila-second and then seemed to zoom out again. I can still see the axis and it rotates as i rotate the window but i can't see any model information.

The current model i am working on is very complex, not so much detailed, just a lot of (R) (N) (E) walls. I have a layer combo for my (N) and (E) model and the last time that it did this i was in my (N) 3d model layer combo, which happens to have all the window assemblies (they are just openings in my (E) 3d model).

It is very frustrating for me as i'm sure it is for chrissy, especially when half the time i am in the perspective window i am in fly mode getting right up to an area that needs design work with an architect over my shoulder asking me to fly around and capture different views.

If any archicad expert or supermega guru can look into this it would be much appreciated, i'm sure there are a lot more ArchiCAD users having this same issue.

I've had the same issue. Last time it happened was right after I had adjusted a window trim. I received no error message, but the Generic Perspective 3D window displayed nothing but white. The Generic Axonometry window still functioned fine. (BTW, anyone know why they're "Generic"?)

When I changed the window trim settings back (via undo) the 3D display returned immediately.

They are generic because they show whatever are the current settings when you go to 3D window.

Learn to use Views. Set up a View with correct layer combo, etc, a camera for the perspective view. Then, you don't just open the 3D window. You call a view. Do it every time you have a view that you want and will want to see again in the 3D window. Name them correctly (interior staircase view, ugly view that the boss insists on, this is horrible bu the client wants it ... ) so that you will know what they are in a week or six months. Then not only you can view them correctly each time, you can publish them at any time.

The question is also HOW are you opening the 3D window. F3, F5, Shift F5?

My reccomendation is the views. Learn to use them in everyday work. Forget about the Project map - View Map is your friend!

Roger that...Views are friends...Nevertheless, I wonder why "show all in 3D view" causes everything to disappear. I just went around it going to a saved view, and I am looking at the settings for that view. The key point is that I have to "go around it" Thank you for further feedback on this!

You answered a 15-year old thread. 🙂

So, could you describe your issue in more detail? What exactly does this "go around it" mean?

Are you saying that you have nothing selected on the Floor Plan, you activate the "Show All in 3D" command in the context menu, and nothing is displayed in 3D?

By the way, I would be a good idea to state your configuration, Archicad version and operating system in your signature.

Lazlo,

Thank you for your reply. That is right. When I work on this particular file, I click on " show all on 3d" (nothing selected) and the #D window shows nothing on it. The work around I mentioned is to go to the stored 3D views and pick it from there. There is a view there that allows me to see "all elements on 3d" Thank you for your reply
