Hi!

So, i have some furniture in my project. Imagine a 3 piece tall cabinets which are supposed to be read as 1 entity. I labeled each of the 3 as "A09", as in "closet 09" (i named them "a,b and c" for the purpose of this post). So i have 3 closet objects that have the same ID. When i do a schedule, i get the 2d plan and section preview independently.

Is there a way to join those 3 cabinets into one 2d and section view? What is the best workflow?

Also, is there a "2d elevation view" parameter to put in the schedule?

Cheers,

Z

No, they are separate objects.

You could merge them so they only appear once in the schedule, but they will still preview as a single unit.

The only way to show a single 3 unit wide cabinet, is to have an object that allows for a 3 unit wide cabinet.

The default Graphisoft objects can only be single or double door units as far as I know.

By the way, what is the criteria by which the schedule decided which cabinet goes first, second, etc, if the three are named A09? Cause i would like to control the elevation so it could match the closet seen in elevation, just divided by pieces.

If they are all identical with the same IDs, then it may come down to the order they are placed in the model, but that is just a guess.

Is it possible to create a new object by selecting the three separate objects and saving them as a distinct three-piece object? Is that viable? Will it retain specific options for each of the integrated objects within?

When I had situations like this one, I would always name the objects distinctly, A09.a, A09.b and A09.c respectively or A09.1, A09.2, A09.3, but you get the point. That's the method I used even when using AutoCAD, because that way it's certain which part goes where.

Hey rakurs, thank you for the input.

Yes, i actually started like that, as you can see in the 1st picture i posted, but then my plan would have to have 3 annotations for the same 3 piece cabinet, so i for now prefer to have them 3 as "A09", lets say, and it has the advantage of grouping them in the schedule. The downside is you dont know which goes where unless you see the kitchen detailed elevation. But as i intend to the be at the construction site, those thibns can be clarified easily. Problem will be if i have to communicate it only in the drawings, might not be so clear.

Cheers,

As I asked Barry, if you select all the parts and save them as an object, you can get something. I can try to play around with it, but here's a one minute result.

The "normal" kitchen is consisted of four cabinets, 60 + 15 + 60 + 15 centimeters. The one placed top right, over the wall, is the "New Object 1." It seems it needs some playing with settings, because its fill covers the dashed line the original kitchen cabinets had. But hey, it still shows the sink! I'm not sure if this is viable, but try it, maybe you'll get decent results.

I will probably try to play with it a bit later.

When you select this new object, it clearly shows the lines, but when you unselect it, the lines are covered with the fill. If under this new object's settings I select one of the pens and set it to transparent, the whole element becomes transparent. It probably takes some fiddling with it, but it might be useful still.

You could select all 3 objects and then save them as a new object, but you would lose all parametric control and it would basically be a static object.

If you get into GDL scripting, then that is a different matter as you can create a master object that calls in the separate parts, but that is much easier said than done.
