Are there any speed gains to be recognized by unchecking some of the add-ons in a file that will never get used other than the initial load times?
Any file size reductions?

It would be good to hear from GS on this, but IME there is no significant speed increase or file size reduction in unloading any add-ons.

Keeping attributes and layout data to a minimum, plus using the built-in compression makes a big difference.

This has been discussed numerous times and Search should provide plenty of results.

There are some add-ons that affect file size.

For example, we removed the IFC add-ons and file sizes dropped about 25%.

If you're not making IFCs, that could be a good one to get rid of.

This could vary depending on the add-on's requirements. Most will only store some preferences in the project file, which will consume very little space.

There are some add-ons that check for updates, and this can slow initial loading. Doubt it affects the speed after loading, though.

Add Ons do increase the filesize but only if they are being used as well.
The IFC Add On has the biggest effect, but also for example using the Grid Tool increases the filesize.

Thanks for the replies people, that's good info. I too would be interested in see some hard numbers from GS pertaining to each Add-On. I will try to exclude a few different ones as time allows. Can't go there at the moment.

It depends on the AddOn and what it does. Obviously, an AddOn like the Grid Tool will make an impact, creating quite a few additional pieces. Or the IFC one, creating invisible structures, practically another file within the file. Let's not go into RoofSurfacers and the similar ones

My favourite recently is PolyCount ... managed do cut a file from 675K to 250K polys. Considering it's a whole island, not bad 😉
