I have also run into this in our office. We have had very old parts "version 6.5" used in 10. This seems to make the situation worse. I have had this issue several times when converting old files to 10. No more trying to cheat for me. Worth the time to go ahead and update everything before jumping in head first.

I have had more trouble with this when using the internal engine with hidden line and saving these to our cover sheet pages. Could the file size of these be causing trouble as well? Tiff's cause the same issue as well.

A work around that has worked a few times for me is to simply save the file as a different name. Not sure why this helps, but it has so far.

<R>When saving some big files in Archicad, I keep getting:

<S></S>'not able to save file. not enough room in the heap zone' <E></E>

Then the program closes. So I am unable to save.

I have increased the virtual memory to see if that would make any difference, however its giving same error.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.</R>

Ok, got the specs... Shes running:

AMD Athlon XP 2700+ 2.17 GHz, 1.50 GB of RAM

Seems to be more than enough.....

This is a very old error message (I thought it had long since gone extinct). I suspect bad RAM. If you have three 512MB DIMMs you can try pulling out each one in turn and see if the problem persists.

If you've been thinking about a RAM upgrade (or the cost is no big deal to you) you could buy some 1GB DIMMs. I have always bought my RAM from Crucial (a division of Micron - longtime OEM to Apple and IBM) and have never had a problem.

for me it seems to have something to do with the Fills and there scales. My Mesh has a top surface material that is associated with a modified Stone Surface fill. If I change the Mesh top material to a material that does not have a fill associated with it the file saves.

It's not an old issue at all - it has to do with dynamic memory allocation and can occur in a file that may have mass amounts of polygons, large images, etc.

Check the wiki.
Guess I just haven't seen it for a very long time. I thought with all our GB of RAM and modern memory managers we were long past that.

The two Items I noted from the Wiki page were:

too little RAM or virtual memory in the system. - Check if the combined size of the physical RAM installed in your system, and the size of Virtual Memory that the Operating system is allowed to use is equal to 4 GB.

too "heavy" a file or 3D model. - You can use the PolyCount Add-on in ArchiCAD 10 and above to check your model size. Anything over 2 million polygons could cause trouble. Note that in section and elevation views, if vectorial shadow casting is turned on, the shadow polygons also add to the model polygons, therefore Heap Zone error occur in section generation more frequently than in 3D view. Try to simplify unnecessary details, limit the section depth, or if nothing helps, divide the section in two different parts to achieve a smaller model size.

Attached is a Virtual Memory dialog box. Is this the place for this setting. Seems to be adequate.

As far as the PolyCount, I will have to research how this works. I have been suspect all along with the Mesh fill Patterns, but in previous versions of AC I had never had this problem.

I have other posts out there asking other users what kind on fill pattern they are attributing to the Materials of there meshes, but I have seen few answers.
