I don't know if you can open a full AC14 file in Start Edition but the setup is not feasible because just think of all the model data you would lose.
Even if you can open the full AC14 file, all slanted and profiled walls/beams/columns would be gone, curtain walls would be gone, hotlinks would be gone etc.
So it just wouldn't work.
If you want to work for someone with a AC14 full licence, you will have to have a full AC14 licence too.

Actually, I think it even says in the promo material that Start Edition is meant for one-man shops.

ArchiCAD Start Edition 2011

<R>Hello,

Just wondering if anyone could enlighten me on full set of limitations of the Start Edition? Product page says...

<S></S>Limitations of ArchiCAD STAR(T) Edition 2011 compared to ArchiCAD 14 include:

* Collaboration limitations: No Teamwork / Hot Linked Modules / External Drawings / XRefs / Reviewer / PMK file format support / Publisher.
* Modeling limitations: No Curtain Wall / Slanted (straight and curved) wall, column, beam / Profiled (straight and curved) wall, column, beam, / Profile Manager.
* Visualization limitations: No LightWorks rendering / Sketch rendering.
* Performance limitation: No 64-bit version.
* Project Organization limitation: No License Borrowing.
<E></E>

Is there anything else?? I understand you cannot open projects created in AC12/13/14.. is this correct? This could be the biggest issue for me. No publisher/hotlinks/complex profile would be annoying.. I can live without lightworks etc.

For the money it seems like good value but I'm conscious there may be some additional features missing that are not mentioned on the product page.

Any information or to hear from anyone using it would be useful.

Thanks in advance.</R>

Thanks for that.

Although doesnt answer my question about full AC14 files... it says full AC14 can open AC SE 2011 files but how about the other way round? This is important if I was to take a a job on from a client who had done some work in AC 12/13/14???

I had presumed the data would be there but locked, uneditable. Same as LT and full Autocad can work together. The principle of a 'light' version is great but I am not sure this inflexibility works.
Start Edition was not meant for collaboration with others. Less money buys less features.
Start Edition does not open Full version files.
Full version does open Start Edition files.
