SEO = Solid Element Operations and I was specifically referring to operations between elements on different stories (eg. A wall trimmed to a roof on the story above).

All SEOs will be need to be recreated when stories are hotlinked inidividually.

You are making an extra step by the way. You don;t ned to save out mod files, just hotlink the story of each PLN and elevate them as necessary, as shown earlier in the thread.
Rob, just faced with similar problem.
You will have to create identical stories in both projects.

Rod's method works and has the advantage of not having to split up and reassemble the models but means you have to deal with twice the number of stories in each file. Personally I like to take the extra time up front to link the buildings story by story and not have the ongoing hassle of dealing with the extra stories.

Two ways actually:

1. Hotlink the stories individually and adjust them to their correct elevations in 3D

2. The (really) old fashioned way. Save the buildings as library parts.

Matthew's approach is not difficult. As he points out, the set up is what takes time, but saves you much more time throughout the life of the project.
You can create publisher sets of the story by story modules to further ease your work flow/update process.

I will do also the way from Mathew.
You can adjust just in a main PLN. This is the advantage of hotlink.
Anyway you should write down the height of stories in a mail pln.
It is not double work.

could you write down the step by step for inserting the stories individually? I don't seem to get that option when I bring in the PLN files I want to hotlink. I'm not really sure at what point do I say "individual story" or "entire buildng"??? that would great help.
After that go to 3D, select the module (suspend groups=off), click hotspot and choose Elevate to adjust the height.

This is a long-standing, major shortcoming in ArchiCAD that GS needs to address before their userbase overtakes them on this issue too.

It should be pointed out that a multistory hotlinked module will merge with all (multistory) SEOs in tact. Hotlinking individual stories will ~break~ all such SEOs.

The good news is that once the SEOs have been restablished in the parent file, they will remain in tact no matter what happens to the child.

Cheers,
what the heck is S.E.O???

what I had to do was:
1. break out one of the building which contained 3 stories (1, 2, roof) into their own "MOD files".
2. then I had to individually hotlink one by one each story into the main PLN file.
3. then I had to move the entire story down in order for the building with the different floor to floor height be accurate.

I mean....it's better than having incorrect floor to floor heights in the main PLN file for one of the buildings.

thing is that now, whenever I want to do work in that 3rd building that has different floor to floor heights, I have to do them independantly on separate MOD files...which kinda defeats the purpose of having 1 PLN file where you can see all floors....but so be it.

I wasn't sure you could hotlink the model per story.

that's what I was asking.
How/what are the steps in hotlinking story by story to a main PLN file that doesn't have the same story levels????

I wasn't sure where to use the "select story" button?
the image shown earlier on this thread looked like it was from a MAC, and I have a PC. I didn't see the option to select a "Story" or "the entire model" whe hotlinking????

if someone can write the steps down a bit more detailed....I'll follow that method.
