AFAIR this WAS a problem until 8.0 V2/R2. That is why I asked Dennis which ArchiCAD.
Please guys - ALWAYS include your version and service release, as well as OS data when you report a problem!

Layer Nightmare - bug?

<T>Greetings fellow Talkers.

Had the following happen to me recently - discovered it today.

Was working on some detail modules over the past few days; both as MOD files, and as imported Hotlinks with associated views in the PLN file.

Once I went back to working on the floor plans, I discovered, to my horror, that somewhere along the line every single bit of data that I had worked on up until that point had been put on the ArchiCAD layer - none of my view sets worked. In fact, it looks like the only layers remaining are the ones brought in by the module file; I went from having about 50 layers to having about 10 layers; and all but the module info ended up on the ArchiCAD layer.

I remember choosing to have the module's layers put onto the ArchiCAD layer, thinking that I'll select and change them to other layers later; what I definitely did not choose was to have all my work put onto the ArchiCAd layer, with the exception of a module that I'd imported.

Does this sound like a bug, or did I inadvertantly toggle some gawd-awful excuse for a setting somewhere, causing this to occur? Please let me know what you think so I will know how to avoid this in the future.

Thanks,

Dennis Glynn AIA</T>

This does sound like a bug; which ArchiCAD?

I apologize, guys - forgot to include my snazzy signature, which would tell you that yes, I am using the latest version of the software that is available. I uninstalled the earlier versions of AC 8, and installed fresh from the CD which arrived within the past two weeks.

And no, this was not the result of a crash in ArchiCAD. I have experienced unstable performance in PM 3.1 - it crashes more often than I'd like.

Let's see - I'll X out this box, and hopefully my signature will appear below.

Thanks all,
