Unfortunately yes, as section and elevation markers do not have a renovation status (I'm not sure why not).

The only other work-around I can think of is to have a solid white fill over the marker - you can set the renovation status of a fill.
So you would have a 'New' fill over the existing section marker and an 'Existing' fill over the new section marker.

<T>Hey all,

New to ArchiCAD and having come from Revit I'm still trying to wrap my head around this layers thing.

I have an existing building. In the EXISTING plan I want to take a section, let's say Section E1, to show something.

In the NEW plan I want to take a section, let's say Section N1, to show something else.

Do I have to have 1 layer called "Section Markers - Existing" and another called "Section Markers - New" just so I can hide one or the other when necessary?

If we could just hide things individually, not by layer, this would be so much easier.

Am I doing something wrong here?</T>

Just set up different layer combinations in conjunction with the renovation filter & views, takes a few minutes, but then once its in your template, its good to go every time.

Just out of curiosity, how many layers do you guys have? Seems like I'm going to end up with a bunch.

I deal with just residential buildings and our template has about 65 layers and 50 combinations.

Being a template this caters for most situations so not all are needed for every job.
