<T>Just out of curiosity do Special characters seem stable to use within names like layers?

We are using "|" as a space separator for example "A | Wall | Interior". I know this could have been an issue in the past and I wonder if it is still an issue. Just curious. Thanks!</T>

It should be no problem as long as you are staying within ArchiCAD. You may have problems with the layer names when exchanging files with AutoCAD and such but that would depend on the details.
