<T>I used the same favorite to draw new external wall on a new story, but the new wall does not show the fill of the composite materials inside the wall. I've checked the settings and they appear to be identical. I also checked the Layers settings which is set to Show All. Since the walls are on different stories, I went back to the first story and tried drawing a composite wall over to the side. It too showed up as having an empty fill. Does anyone know why and how to fix this?

Attached image of empty wall w/ settings -- I'll reply and attach an image of the filled wall w/ settings.
I figured it out... The new wall was on 1'4" tall representing 2 courses of block. When I made it taller, the fill showed up. However, I'm still curious to know why it wouldn't show the fill on a short wall. Any suggestions? In ARCH 11 the short wall showed the fill.

Your problem is the "Projected with Overhead" display setting. Try some of the other settings. When you make it taller, though, then you are into the "Cut Plane," which will show the settings under "Cut Fill," etc.

As Richard pointed out, you must have had the wall with Symbolic display previously - or else your cut plane height was low enough to cut the short wall.

Note that with Complex Profiled walls you do NOT have the symbolic option, and will thus have to deal with the cut plane.

Also, I notice in your wall settings that you do not have check marks for the various "Apply Structure's Settings' check boxes. I very highly recommend that you always have checks there unless there is some strong reason to over-ride the settings defined in the Composite (or Complex Profile) definition. Using the defined settings makes your composite a true wall type or style, and changing the definition changes all walls made with that composite. It permits a precise definition of how a wall type is to be displayed. There are rare times when it makes sense to uncheck these, but very rare IMHO. <E>😉</E>

Cheers,
Yes, Symbolic Cut did the trick.

As for "Apply Structure's Settings' check boxes, they were <S></S>unchecked <E></E> by default when I made the wall and when I did check them (before choosing Symbolic Cut), it made no difference. I created this composite by duplicating and editing an existing one and admit that I still don't understand the reasoning behind a lot of the settings so until I know better I try to leave well enough alone. Now that I know the benefit, I'll check for this in the future.

Sorry I wasn't clear.

The check boxes will not affect whether the wall is seen or not - but rather what pens (etc) will be used for when it IS seen...namely, if the pens in the composite settings dialog are used, or if the pens in the wall settings dialog override them.

I really recommend that you not 'leave well enough alone' ... since ArchiCAD is not delivered with settings that make sense, at least in the US release. Best to understand the settings before plowing ahead, if this is a real project. <E>😉</E>
