Whenever I select an element and open the ID manager it tells me the number of selected elements but always zero configurable. (element and layer unlocked). Must be missing something dumb. cheers

You should select settings relevant to the selected element type. For example, if you have Walls selected, select "Wall ID" from the Settings drop-down list because that is the one that deals with Walls.
The configurable field will change accordingly.
For some reason it always display one less then number of selected elements of that element type. I do not know why.
