topic FAvorites and layers in Project data & BIM

<T>I've noticed this problem on several projects and wonder if I'm doing something wrong. I save electrical symbols with their appropriate layers, etc. When I load the .prf file in another project that has the same layers, many of the symbols either has the layer "missing" or have defaulted to the Archicad layer. Any trick to this? I'm tired of redefining. Are favorites common across different versions of Archicad as well?</T>

Good question;
I have never been able to work our how to tag layers to favorites. And I also think this is important.
I notice that this happens if the original Layer of the Favorite is unavailable in the current project. Even if the Layer's have the same name, they may not have the same internal ID -- could this be the problem?

So that means unless you work from the same template or .pln for every project, favorites won't work. It would appear that the layer setting for favorites won't transfer across projects otherwise. unless you can change the layer ID. Which is beyond my knowledge.

You need to manage Attributes -- this is nothing new, although a touchy subject for most. ArchiCAD recognizes most attributes by their index number, not their name, to speed processing time. Until GS gives us better control over Attributes, you have to rely on a good Template and the Attribute Manager.

Shouldn't you be working from templates anyway?

We do, but have added some layers which we have not added to the template. So it has gotten left behind....and did not know about the ID numbers....guess I'll go back and update the template.
I wonder what will happen when AC11 comes out. Will templates and favorites transfer from one version to another?

As well as ever. There is no change (yet) in the joys of attribute management.

I just opened our AC10 Template in AC11, and appears to have transferred without any (apparent) errors -- even the S/E Favorites transferred to the appropriate (Section <S></S>or<E></E> Elevation) Tool.
