shadows will not appear in section/elevation tool any ideas

I have a model that, when displaying the elevations will not show the shadows. I tried all the possible combinations in the elevation settings.
when I start with a new model, and I draw a couple of walls with windows it works fine

is there any thing that I am missing, meaning can shadows be forgotten or reside on layers that are turned off???

Could it be that your elevation is an unlinked drawing ?
I can't think of any other cause for your issue at the moment.

I thought another possibility and that is,
you may have the shadow polygon set
a fill type that has no hatch pattern
such as empty fill or airspace etc.

for what ever reason, it decided to repair or fix itself after the 3rd time reopening the file.

thanks for your suggestions, this one will remain a mystery to me.
