Thanks for your replies...I still seem to have a problem. My plans don't show the story above or below, even if I go to -Document-Floor plan cut plane- and change the settings (the required layers are all on, and the absolute limit is 'project 0'). Am I doing something wrong here? Also I tried cutting the site model off the lower story and pasting it on the ground floor, all the elevations seem to have changed. So I abandoned that. What is the best way of transferring the site model to the story above, without changing coordinates?...

<T>Could anybody guide me on how to show contours below the main floor plan? I have the contours saved as a separate story. I have tried showing levels below plan (AC10), but it does not seem to work. where should the countours be? on the floor plan as a layer, or on another story altogether?</T>

I assume by contours you are referring to a site model. If this is on the story below the main floor, select the mesh and set it to show "One Story Up". Any other situation will involve more complexities and is not advisable.

I've always modeled the site on the same story as the ground floor plan, and used layers combination to show the site plan. I fail to see the benefits of having a dedicated site story - it just means that you have to include the lower story(s) height into the elevation of your mesh, which is an unnecessary hindrance IMHO.
BTW; I agree with Link on this. I've always put the site model on the ground floor and controlled its visibility with layers.

Matthew wrote:
I've always put the site model on the ground floor and controlled its visibility with layers.

The issue with this approach is multiple structures all sited at odd angles on a single lot or terrain, which is typical for my work.

This may sound odd to some but here's what I do:

<S></S>* model all the buildings in the same PLN so that on the 1st story you can see the first floor of all the buildings

* use a story below the 1st story to make the Site plan/Horizontal Control plan.

* Place the buildings on the site as Modules.<E></E>

Yes, managing the modules and Hotlinks is additional overhead but I like having everything in one file. I suppose that this sort of compositing could now be done (in 2D) on the layout sheet but for now, at least, I prefer this method because it allows me to visualize the massing and relationship of all the structures on the terrain mesh in 3D.

I said:
Yes I'm quoting myself. But after a little more experience with the Cut Plane settings for views, it's become evident that better control is now avilable by setting the Relative Floor Plan Range to show up multiple stories, for a site plan view.

No matter what story one's site plan is on we can show elements from any other story on it, like roofs, as some people like to do.

(Doesn't help Chazz though)

Cheers,
