Purge Layers is available in Options > Attribute Manager

Because objects serve so many different functions they will end up on many different layers. Look at the layer name in the info palette before placing them and option/alt click on elements that are already correct to pick-up the settings.

You will need to think of layers differently in ArchiCAD than you are probably accustomed to. The onion skin analogy is not appropriate in a building model. It is best to think of layers as collections of things that need to be turned on and off together. Remember that one "layer" could contain a complete model of a multi-story HVAC system. This is hardly analogous to a drafting overlay.

Automatic layering

<T>Does Archicad automatically put library objects in it's own layer? It appears AC puts things in whatever layer is current at the time. Is that true, or do I have some setting turned off (or on)

The default drawings has 37 layers when first opened. I know I can add more or purge layers. Is there a way I can tell if a layer has anything on it before I purge it. It would be good if there was a way to purge only empty layers.

Am I missing some concept here? Maybe I'm just used to AutoCad. I do miss that feature.

Thanks.</T>
