Architects (nowadays and even before BIMx) were/are still always hesitant to "GIVE AWAY" their design models, BIMx or otherwise. The clients they do work for usually will require some sort of 'BINDING LEGAL CONTRACT LANGUAGE' that says no mention of "project A" shall be distributed unless authorized by the client.

So, with that hurdle/mountain to climb, it's no wonder we as a profession can't seem to get our word out on the street on how wonderful our designs and technology can help our industry......sadly, we are doomed.

Very few architectural firms want to show off their design unless it's via their own business controlled website where they can flaunt the designs they chose to show, either thru a crude slide show of static images or some small low-rez video......but allowing 'the world' to simply go in a grab a building model, BIMx or otherwise....??........unheard of.

I, for one, am a proponent of letting any grab whatever BIMx model they want to. it's thru word of mouth mostly that this industry gets its referrals...therefore.......HECK!...why not give away (like 'crack') your hard earned models....for others to view....why not!

Anyone know of a way I can put a model on my company website? Ideally, anyone on the website could download the model and view it on their computer.

Thanks.

Create the self-playing EXE file, then ZIP it and put the ZIP file on the site?

Yes, whatever exe or app file you save from BIMx can just be zipped and put as a download link on your site, in dropbox or wherever. Important to post both exe and app (as separate downloads) since the person visiting your site could be on either Windows or Mac.

Some people may be unsure about running a mystery 'exe' file for fear of virus, trojan horse, etc...
