topic Base Cabinet objects with 'open backs'? in Libraries & objects

<T>here's the deal.
we need to have two cabinet objects back to back but...we need the back panel of the object to have an 'open' back. Meaning we need to see thru the cabinet object.
how would you accomplish this WITHOUT using "operators" such as slabs that you place on hidden layers...?

thanks,</T>

you would have to make gdl code edits to the cabinet and or the base macro for the cabinet. otherwise you are stuck with seo to accomlish this.

I hate....no wait, loathe, having to create objects in layers which are turned off JUST to accomplish something which should be programmed into the cabinet objects.
HUMMM.....small paypal donation huh?
well, I can't speak for the rest of the users here but it would be helpful for me.
if the "step-by-step" could be precise enough to follow.......then yoI'd be willing to compensate your time (10 minutes) but I'll probably turn into something like 30m of your time. I'm not too comfortable with Paypal but I could mail you a gift card to Starbucks or something to that nature. I could sure use a tutorial on GDL and how to script information into an objects parameters........so it's yer call.
send me a PM if you'd like and we can work out the details.

SenecaDesignLLC wrote:
well I cant really ask for money for the cabinet as it is not my property. I could however send you a detailed step by step process to add the option yourself. Its really not to difficult, and it will give you some more indepth knowledge of gdl. maybe a small paypal donation? to compensate for my wifes anger ha ha? and i guess for the time to write up the how to? Hmm...

I have made the decision to as of now not request or ask for any type of money for my work. Until such a time that i feel like ive gotten good enough to really ask for money. So should i get a chance this weekend i will make a video tutorial with a write up for everyone to see.

Ages ago I wrote my own cabinet object which I have used in all my work ever since. It has the option to turn off the cabinet back as you wish. PM me if you are interested (No CC rigamarole just don't resell it).

Hmm... Some years ago, there were errors in the door openings objects (I think it was v. 10) which I corrected and uploaded to the depository. Looks like I violated the license?

Rob, just convert the cabinet to a Morph, delete the back, and resave as a new object. Done. Probably less time than writing the post explaining what you are trying to achieve.

This topic side-stepped into a discussion of whether we (users) are allowed to modify the standard library parts distributed with AC.

I've broken that discussion out here:
<LINK_TEXT text="http://archicad-talk.graphisoft.com/vie ... hp?t=47320">http://archicad-talk.graphisoft.com/viewtopic.php?t=47320</LINK_TEXT>
where it can be continued.

The net answer for this topic is that any of us can provide the steps necessary to modify the object to not display the backs... but was can NOT post the modified object itself. To understand this more fully, or comment further on the policy - vs the base cabinet issue - please go to the topic linked above. Thank you! <E>🙂</E>

So that one of us can give you the steps for turning off the cabinet backs (if you still care??) - please give the names of the cabinet parts you are interested in, or at least which library version (17? 18?) you're using.
