That will depend on how you object is scripted as to whether there is a parameter that will allow you to have the frame on the inside, outside or centre.
If you don't have a parameter like this in your object then the will not be a lot you can do with it (unless you are handy with GDL or start whiting out lines and drawing in your own (won't help in 3D)).
Maybe searching the libraries/internet for another folding door.

I see there is one in the BIM Components Portal for 17 but the same one does not appear in the 16 portal so that is not much help (it is called "D1 Sliding Folding Multipanel USA").
But it is a USA library part if you have access to the 16 USA library (sorry I don't) - maybe there is something in there?

<T>Trying to use the folding DOOR as a folding WALL that can be open to add a practice room and/or closed to open up the area. Is there a possibility that the runner could be moved to one side or the other (this is what will happen in real life)? so that the runners can be showed at the edge of the space rather than in the wrong spot inside the space...it is giving the idea that the space is really small.

I mean put the runner on the edges of the doors, not in the middle</T>
