As I recall there is a painting object that you can use. But what I've done is this:

place a wall that is as wide, deep, and high as the frame (say 3' x 4' x 1") Then place a niche into the wall that is the size of the picture and 1/2" deep (so in this case 2'-8" x 3'-8" x 1/2"). Then set the niche tool to a material that is your painting. Align the material in 3D and you're set.

To make the material:

create a material that has the painting as a jpg. Set the jpg size to your niche size (2'-8" x 3'-8").

A little complex, but really versatile and fast once you've done it once. And it uses skills you should learn regardless (niche, align 3d texture, and material creation). If you use a generic material to represent 'painting' (aged copper for instance), then you can skip the material making and aligning.

You cam also use the parapicture object in the Object Depository.

Hi Link
I am probably going to sound dull here! but having downloaded it I can't seem to save it or find it in the library. I have never added a GDL to the library before so I'm not sure what to do? I'm sure some newbies to Archicad have come across this problem before. Well i'm hoping they have so i'm not on my own.
Thanks for your help
Well I don't know where you downloaded it to, or if it is zipped up, but you need to load the .gsm file.

For quick and dirty, try dragging and dropping it into your floor plan. If you'd like to manage it a little better, then place it into one of your loaded library folders in your OS and reload your libraries.

It really depends on the format of your loaded libraries.

Cheers,
Deb:

Open the object's dialog box, the first parameter is for the name of the image file you want to use as your image. The default name is "park plan.pct". Enter the name of the image you want to use, this image must be in one of the loaded libraries, just like a texture that is used with materials.
This means the parapicture object is looking for an image called park plan pct in your library and not finding it.

You need to load all the images you want to use for the paintings into your library (using the library manager). Then, when you place the parapicture object type in the appropriate name in the parameters each time.

Have a look at the help files on the subject of libraries.
Thanks David and Vistasp both replies were useful.
I have read the library info but can't seem to find how to add a texture to the materials. I have saved a jpg file (picture) and I thought I dragged and dropped it into the library 14 folder in the Graphisoft folder. But when I go to Options-element attributes-materials.....textures and select search, the library 14 folder is there but there's nothing in it?

I seem to be missing out a process I think?

Can you advise me where to go from here.

Many Thanks
Putting additional files into the default library folder will work allright but if you ever reinstall AC, you could lose them. Better to have a library hierarchy that works across versions.

1. Default Library: Leave this as it is for each version of AC

2. Office Library: Customised or downloaded library parts that you regularly use across projects.

3. Project Library: Library parts that are unique to that particular project.

Do a search of this forum for a better insight into the subject.
