topic Object Filesize in Libraries & objects

<T>Hi,
We have a project where someone has created a tap using a series of high-poly primitives grouped together. I've just created a replacement object using GDL with the aim of giving the users flexibility, and reducing the polycount in 3D. The only problem is, the filesize of the model that they're used in has increased significantly.

The objects themselves are between 12kb and 15kb. They both have around 3 parameters. The code isn't particularly long (155 lines in 2D, 88 for 3D). Both have a small Preview Picture saved.

What is it that affects the filesize of the files that they're used in? Obviously it'll need to hold the values for all parameters for each instance of the object, but surely all other info is saved within the object itself?

Are there any tips or tricks for keeping filesize, both in the object and in the files they're used in, down?

Thanks,

Well, first, I'd like to be sure it's the OBJECTS jacking up the filesize...

Have you tried placing the object by itself in a file an do nothing else to it? Does this filesize grow significantly?

It has been my experience that other things, like SECTIONS, ELEVATIONS and DETAILS that are DRAWINGS can really increase the filesize...

I presume there are a large number of these TAPS in your plan?

Just thinking out loud here..

We've narrowed it down a bit. The issue seems to be caused by the vast number of internal elevations of each room, each still showing the old taps. It'll take a day to refresh them all but hopefully that should do the job.
