Another way:

If you're rendering the view in Archicad:
1 - Once the render is done select the image (either using the mouse to select the portion you want or CTRL A to select all)
2 - CTRL C or Copy from the Edit menu
3 - Open the Preview window in your library part and paste (CTRL V or from Edit menu)

<T>Hello everybody.

When I create a GDL object, I can't paste a picture to Image Preview window. ArchiCAD says that my "clipborad is empty, cut or copy." I've tried several ways to copy, cut and paste, but does not work.

I looked at some similar problems here in the forum, but were for the 11 version, my version is 13.

Sorry, my english still bad.</T>

By default Archicad does not copy images to the Windows clipboard.

There are two solution.

There is a Registry entry called "copy to picture also" found here in the registry .....

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Graphisoft\ArchiCAD\ArchiCAD 13.0.0 AUS R1\Input]

You will need to adjuast that path to suit your version of the software.

Set this registry value to "1" an now youcan copy and paste images.

I can't get this to work in 14 but 13 seems to work fine.

The other solution is to use a screen capture program.
There are many out there if you google.

For the preview pic in a gdl object I always use a .bmp file and just drag and drop from my desktop or file folder straight into the preview picture window.
Hope this helps.

Since you're on Win7, try the built-in "snipping tool". Instead of saving the screen capture to a file, just copy it and then paste it into the image preview window of your gdl object.

Ok today i tried the drag and drop method I mentioned earlier and it did not work. I have figured out that you do need to get the image on your clipboard in order for the pasted image to properly save into the gsm.The following is what worked for me today.

1. With a screen capture program (I'm using PicPick Image Editor) I captured, resized and saved the image as a .bmp file.

2. In the same program I right clicked on the image and clicked "Select All" then right clicked again "Copy", this saved the image to my clipboard.

I also tried this with windows paint program and it worked also and I discovered that in both of these programs you do not have to perform the select all part of step 2. You just have to open the image, right click and copy.

3. All that was left was to open the .gsm, open the preview window, hit control + v and save.

**It seem the key thing is to make sure that the image gets to your clipboard.

I hope this helps.

This still doesn't work in 14 (at least not for me).
Are you using 14?
Mac or Windows?

My appologies it does work from the 3D render window (only).
You can't copy any other 3D or 2D view to use as your paste.

You have to use a screen capture program to get the image into the clipboard.
Archicad 14 for some reason does not copy an image to the clipboard even if the correct Registry entry is set.
OK, so if you screen capture a view (such as plan or section, etc) and save it as an image (JPG, BMP, etc.) in your screen-capture program.... Then, if you open the saved image in Archicad, then Select All, Copy & Paste to your Preview Window? (I did this successfully with a demo version of 14)

Can't say I have tried that as it would be the long way around.

No need to save the image at all unless you want to edit it.
Some capture programs will even allow you to edit the image straight away.

Most screen capture programs will automatically (or give you the option in the settings) capture to the clipboard.
So it is just capture the image, open the preview and paste.
