Freestanding Windows & Doors

Hi everyone,

I am looking for freestanding (not needing a wall) windows and doors objects.

Has anyone ever encountered such a thing?
Has anyone ever modified the Archicad library windows and doors to make them freestanding?

I'll take any information on this topic as I didn't find any on the internet.

Just resize the wall to the dimensions of the window/door.

Or use curtain wall tool.

Been intending to make something like this for a little while now.

Place where I work has a habit of doing individual walls for the sole purpose of containing windows, when the wall is sized exactly to the window it becomes really annoying to select the wall to move it around.

Haven't thought of using the curtain walls, though I think there might be scheduling issues.

You can make it yourself using the XML converter. Create a new object and copy the Master Script from the door that you want, then using the XML converter copy the parameters from the original object to your new object.

<ParamSection SectVersion="26" SectionFlags="0" SubIdent="0">

...

</ParamSection>

You will also need to rotate the 3D as doors and windows are modelled in the X-Y plane while we need it to be in the X-Z plane. To do this, just add the following to the start of your Master Script:

If GLOB_VIEW_TYPE = 3 then ROTx 90

If you click on the 'edge' of the wall/window you should select the wall. You can also activate the wall tool and try to select, it will prefer walls over other elements.

Thinking about it, I am not actually sure if we are allowed to share them as they are essentially still the AC doors and windows and the licence on them does not allow for distribution...

Each of the door and window types appears to have a different set of parameters so you will not be able to just swap out the Master Script after you have done it once, but they all seem to start and end with the same lines as written in my original reply. Easiest thing would probably be to use the find function to select "</ParamSection>" as it is harder to locate then go to the top of the script and highlight to the "<ParamSection SectVersion="26" SectionFlags="0" SubIdent="0">" line.

Also the new windows and doors will be objects and so will not schedule as doors and windows.
It is much easier in my opinion to just add a tiny wall for your free standing doors and windows.

Sure you can schedule them - I probably should have said that.
But they won't schedule in a door/window schedule that is using criteria that is set to look for doors and windows.
You will need to add objects as well and then you can't be using the door/window fields to get the info you want - you will have to add object parameter and/or properties (if they have been set up).

Doors/windows and objects probably won't play nice if all in the one schedule as the fields for one type will not apply to the other so you will end up with blank spots in the output.
It would probably work OK if you only had these free-standing objects and that is all you were scheduling.

The only way to know for sure is to give it a go.
Add a window and a free-standing object and try to schedule them.
Together all in one schedule I can imagine it will be a problem, separately for each type I think you may get around it.
