If you can't use any existing objects then just go back to basics.
Any vertical elements (ie doors and side panels) are walls.
Horizontal elements (ie counter tops and shelves) are slabs.
Sloping elements (ie wine rack XXXX) are roofs.

Grouping elements is a handy trick if you want them to stay together as one unit.

<T>Hi,

I have a client that wants a stand-behind bar in his house. I haven't found a cabinet that will work well for this and don't yet know enough about gdl to build my own. Does anyone have any good ideas about how to go about this?

Thanks!</T>

Without knowing what kind of bar you wish to create could you use some existing cabinet casework with the countertop turned off and use a slab for the bar top. Perhaps if you could attach a sketch people could be more specific in their suggestions.

Cheers,

Two guys walk into a bar.
It's too bad because the second guy had time to duck.

Try using the complex profile to create an intriguing form.
