Yes, I think Juha is right, I have seen this happen.
The thing to do at this point until it is fixed is do not save the library part in any of the loaded libraries instead in another location. Now when you reload the libraries, it will reload the library part because it is in the loaded libraries and it will load it because it is among Other Objects. Then it thinks it is double.

<T>'Mates -

I've been editing a custom part and saving to the project library - and AC warns me of duplicate parts, with a directory path for each of the two duplicates pointing to exactly the same place.

Trouble is, there's only one file in that location.

How could AC get so confused - is there a fix? This is not the first time this has happened, but it seems persistent today so I thought I'd write.

PS - on a related note, when opening the library part using cmd-opt-O for editing, on re-saving (sometimes) I get a warning that there already is a part with this name in the loaded libraries. Well, duh. I cannot "save as..." in the usual way, so I save with the original name. Apparently I've saved over the old version of the part... but this duplication problem makes me think perhaps no.

Any insights?</T>

Please add your Archicad version to your profile. Answers may vary dependent upon the version.
Post a screenshot of your library manager showing us which libraries you have loaded.
Also a screenshot of finder showing us what is in the loaded library folder(s)

Hey Erika thanks for your quick reply.

I started to load the duplicate report - but then inspired by you I took another look at my library manager and saw that all was well there - no duplicate libraries - *except* the part in question was loading individually under the "other objects" folder.

How it got there would be a good topic for this thread.

I deleted it there and now all is well.

So... why *would* this object start loading all by itself, independently of the library it's associated with?

Could you have created it placing it not in a loaded library and later moved it in to the library folder?
Delete the individual one so long as it is in the library folder.

Hello,

When you open (and save) an object from outside your active libraries, ArchiCAD adds it under the 'Other objects'-folder.

I think that in the case like yours - when saving the part into a active library- it is a bug.

My experience is that AC gets confused about libraries on a server, when the parts are opened via the Open dialog, as opposed to selecting an object and doing Cmd+Opt+O.

Libraries on local machine: Always OK.

Libraries on server, opened via selection: OK.

Libraries on server, loaded parts opened via dialog: "Same name" warning, followed by placement in Other Parts and duplicate report.

In other words, AC doesn't realize that the path in the Open dialog is the same as the loaded libraries path, when that path is on a server. Bug.

As long as you are sure you are saving on the correct path, all you have to do is delete the redundant items under Other Objects. Or, place an instance of the object and open it from there.
