Seems nobody really knows.

Head of a Halberdier is a fragment of a Hieronymus Bosch painting. It is currently in the Museo del Prado in Madrid.

If I hear anything from GS behind who chose it and why, I'll report back.

Cheers,
Thank you very much! I had already lost hope.

It may be a coded message for Graphisoft software interface programmer initiates. According to Wikipedia,

<S></S>Hieronymus Bosch, (latinized Jheronimus Bosch; his real name Jeroen van Aken) (c. 1450 – August 9, 1516) [1] was an Early Netherlandish painter of the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries. Many of his works depict sin and human moral failings. Bosch used images of demons, half-human animals and machines to evoke fear and confusion to portray the evil of man.[1] The works contain complex, highly original, imaginative, and dense use of symbolic figures and iconography, some of which was obscure even in his own time.<E></E>

That has been explained in DNC's GDL Cookbook.
Apparently Lazlo Sparing from Graphisoft Hungary chose it because he wanted an unusal and difficult name.
He saw the name on a sign post in California and decided to use it.
Another piece of trivia:

Hieronymus (Harry) Bosch is the protagonist in a series of novels by Michael Connelly.

His namesake and his torturous paintings are reoccurring themes in the stories.
