Just do a google for 'free horse 3ds', as 3ds is the most common format for decent free models it seems. Then, pick your breed and discipline. <E>😉</E>

Of course, you might end up with a Lippizaner like this one:
http://www.syntheticgraphics.com/meshes/lipp_horse.html
whose neck seems to be as big as her body barrel.

Some free ones here:
<LINK_TEXT text="http://horse.turbosquid.com/3d-Models/3 ... si/c4d/obj">http://horse.turbosquid.com/3d-Models/3ds/max/xsi/c4d/obj</LINK_TEXT>

These cost $$:
<LINK_TEXT text="http://www.the3dstudio.com/product_sear ... arch=horse">http://www.the3dstudio.com/product_search.aspx?id_category_0=1&search=horse</LINK_TEXT>

If you don't have the 3DS In add-on, go to Help > Goodies to download it so you can import the models you find. Be sure to check the box for smoothing. If the models come with textures, the textures will be included in the created GDL object.
Thanks, Ben. I had not seen those before. The Mac zip file unzipped on Windoze without the gsm extensions, so I'm re-posting it here for PC folks.

Pretty blocky models, but the low poly counts make them fast, and the proportions of most of them are reasonable, buyt the leg positions don't make sense for any of the gaits/stances. (E.g. don't use these with a real equestrian client.)

OT: The PolyCount add-on only detects Horse1.gsm, oddly enough. With only 1 of each of the 4 horses in a project, the poly count for Object is 2,176 (100%) and under object, only Horse1.gsm is listed at 544 polygons (25%). Any idea why the other horses wouldn't get listed as they should? Weird. Even with 'selection only' and nothing (or one) selected, I get the count of all 4 horses. Even more weird.
