Sorry, my bad. I'm an old fart here and just recently discovered this whole "online" help forum thingy....

My name is Rob....let's leave it at that.
the company I work for is called Bermello, Ajamil and Partners.

www.bermelloajamil.com

we are a multi-dicipline architectural firm head quartered in Miami, FLorida. We have offices in the following locations:
1. Miami FL (HQ office)
2. New York
3. Orlando FL
4. Ft. Lauderdale FL
5. Long Beach, CA (virtual office for now but soon to be a real office if I have my way about it - I came from San Diego and want to move back).
6. and recently a 12 man office in Dubai.

the office in the process of growing to a 500+ size firm in the next 5 years...at least that's how big our principals and board of directors wants us to be...let's hope so.

We are working on numerous projects all throughout the world, including "The World-Dubai". We helped to create the master plan for "Nakeel (sp) on "The World" project in Dubai. Our offices will be featured in an upcoming National Georgraphic documentary called "Reshaping the World-The World Dubai" on July 23 and on another documentary on August 12 I believe. Check yer local listings.

So, I worked with this outfit 10 years ago (mid-90's or so), then went to DC to work on my own, then moved to San Diego to work on my own as well, and am back locally in Miami working for B+A.

My position there is, well, jack of all trades, PM on Port work projects as well as other hats I wear.

We are always looking for good Archicad help and good recruits with Archicad talent. we are on Archicad 11.

Dominic Galleleo (sp) came to our office about 2 months ago, sat with myself and a few of the partners and discussed the future of Archicad and how B+A can help to implement Archicad in all our offices.

Our partners are starting to see enormous benifits in Archicad and well, quite frankly they just can't deny the facts that the software is incredible.

My background is in architecture. I have a Masters of Architecture from University of Florida, Gainesville (circa mid 80's). I've had my own consulting practice as well via the net (aint the net a great...when it works). I started using Autocad when it was version 2.5 (yes, there was a version 2.5). Then while working in various firms (20 or so to be more precise throught the U.S. during my professional career) I came across ADT1.0 while working with HOK in DC (I wouldn't work for them if they promised me the world...which I've already been doing with B+A)......

But back to the story, so while working with HOK DC, I noticed what an incredible op that HOK had on the ADT flavor of software...they didn't seem to think so.

Archicad is what "ALL" architects should have started with when CAD came around....it truly is an incredible software and we are making a paradigm shift in our B+A office globally to this new BIM technology......why.....because it works! period. it's great software, great for production, presentations, wooing the clients...etc....just a great software to use, and fun too if you are so 3d inclined as heavily as I am.....

Wheewwww....I hope that answers all your questions....

Please, if any of you are in any where near our office locations, we are always looking for good, experienced Archicad, cad users. Now, don't misunderstand me here. It took me 10years + to get where I am with this office. We don't just accept anyone off the streets who "claim" to know archicad...we need good, expirience 3d visual thinkers who can think on the run and and on their feet 100% of the time............we need the best of the best. So, feel free to email me at:

rrobert@bermelloajamil.com

if you think you would like to work for one of our offices around the World...........thanks....

by the way, who is Haliburton anyway???

Thanks, Duane! Missed that new panel. Mine is set to check for program or library - but only weekly, which explains why I didn't get a heads up. I'm glad to see they made this so flexible...even if this isn't where I would have looked for it. <E>😉</E>

Hmmm...but this doesn't work anyway: I've installed the new library, and it still tells me I'm out of date and need to download the update. (The famous "Jan 1, 1970" library message.)

Cheers,
PS Did anyone find Release Notes anywhere to tell us what got fixed or changed in the lib update?

Aha. The automatic update inability to detect the library version seems to be a Windows-only issue/bug. On my Mac (PPC), it correctly detects the version of the installed library. But, there is still a bug on the Mac: the new library is recognized as having a date of 2007-07-04 but the download library reports it has a date of 2007-07-06, so it tells me to download again (erroneously).
I notice James and Matthew are on Mac, so this may be an issue with the dmg. (My ISP slows me down after so many MB of downloads, and so I can't get the dmg today to check...maybe tomorrow.)

With the zip file for Windows, the three LW lights are in the LW folder.

The way the zip file was constructed - with just the LCF file and the LW folder, I copied it on top of the contents of the AC 11 lib folder and said 'yes' to the replace/overwrite prompts.
You can put it anywhere you like and load it in the Library Manager. If you just replace your existing library (presumably in the ArchiCAD application folder) it will be found and loaded automatically (as long as you don't change the name). If you do replace the old one, make sure you have he LightWorks lamps in the new library first.

Only the USA library Hotfix is currently available. We have added themissing release note.

We have also replaced the Mac library update with the missing LightWorks Lights. Mac users should download the library again. (It's also OK if you have copied the LightWorks Lights from the old library, since these objects have not changed)

Hmmm...but this doesn't work anyway: I've installed the new library, and it still tells me I'm out of date and need to download the update. (The famous "Jan 1, 1970" library message.)

Karl, you must be tweaking your library and you probably have 2 LCF files in your ArchiCAD 11 Library folder. The update checks the creation date of the LCF file, and if there are two, it can't decide which is OK, so it sends a "0" time stamp (which translates to 1970-01-01 in the Unix world) to the server. We have corrected how the server reacts to it - it will report "date invalid" instead of 1970-01-01.

Thanks, Greg...one step closer to solving this!

No, I don't tweak my LCFs as I try to maintain a standard installation for client support and ac-talk.

There are definitely several different bugs in the technology to work out, but it is great that we will finally have this fully automated with 11. <E>😉</E>

There is also a usability issue.

Usability issue: Yes, I did have two LCF files in my folder, as I had copied the Accessories Library 11.lcf (Goodies) file into there. The usability thing is that if we put the Accessories add-on in our add-ons folder (I make a Goodies subfolder), then if we do not place the corresponding lcf in our main lib folder, the 'new from template' will not find the parts needed by the add-on. Going into Lib Manager each time is not really an option, and most users will not want to redefine the default template. Creating an "Accessories" folder under "ArchiCAD Library 11" and placing the LCF into there solves this one.

Minor Bug 1: If there is ANY file whatsoever in "ArchiCAD Library 11" that contains the string "LCF" in its file name, the version check fails and I see the message attached. I simply created a text file with the name "This is not an lcf file.txt" and got the attached. IMHO the software should specifically check the file named "Object Library 11.lcf", not generically *lcf*

Bug 2: As on the Mac, with the proper LCF only in the folder, the update process reads the wrong date. Screenshot in next post since I can only attach one image here... The wrong file attributes are being read, I think...

Best regards,
