I have never done this but as I understand it
you select the part, go to the settings dialog and
select a similar part then select the original part
again and it is supposed to revert the parts settings
to thier default settings.
I may be wrong on this.
My first guess is that one or more of your windows or doors
has a parameter set to zero. In the plan select one wall that
has either doors or windows in it and then hit f4 and see if
the 3D window displays correctly. If it does, go back to the
plan de-select the wall and select the next wall and hit f4 and
see if the 3D window displays correctly. f4 is the function key
on the Mac that tells AC to display only selected elements in 3D
You do not say what platform you are on so it may be different
on a PC.
Keep selecting successive walls until you find a wall that
won't display in 3D and you get the error.
Now you know that one or more doors or windows in that
wall has the problem. In the plan, select each door or window
in that wall and go to its settings dialog and select the 3D preview.
If the 3D preview displays an error then it is the problem object.
Carefully check it's parameter settings and see if some parameter
is set to zero and if so change it to some small positive value
and see if the 3D preview no longer displays the error.
What's the best way to return the part to it's default state, so it can be re-worked?
Try selecting any window or door in the plan,
open the settings dialog, select the 3D preview,
and see if you get an error. If you do, check
all parameters for a zero value including
"A", "B", and "Anchor Point".
All of your doors or windows may have
the same problematic setting.
