topic Room Tag (automatically reading from zones) in Libraries & objects

<T>Hello All,

Hopefully you guys can help me with this. We have developed an object that will query room name and number (RNN) information from the zone that it is placed on top of. This object was created because we currently have separate models for architecture, interiors, and electrical and since architecture controls the RNN then we would like to have all of the other models follow suite automatically to avoid the coordination nightmare that had plagued us in autocad. However, this has created a tremendous lag on the models performance as it needs to query the zones everytime you zoom or pan.
What I am hoping is that someone knows of a way that we could to query a variable and have it be retained without updating....maybe if you had an automatic/manual toggle that would relate to an IF statement that would skip the reading of the variable when the toggle is unchecked....so to update you would check the update toggle rebuild the model then uncheck the update toggle? The object is attached below, to use it simply create a zone and place the object on top of the zone, then under the 'Custom Parameters' menu uncheck the toggle next to "Manually Enter Room Name and Number"</T>

?!?!?!

Why?

Did you try TeamWork or modules?

The point of Archicad is NOT to have the stuff separate, but integrated. If the detail level of project size require breaking it up to gain speed, there are well documented ways and procedures to do it.

Sorry that this is a bit off topic for you (or maybe not?) but this caught my eye ...

Both detail and size require it. There is no way we could create one model even if the size didn't require it, there would be some 30 people accessing the model at one time.

Any suggestions for the tag?

PivoArch,
Its not real clear what you are trying to achieve...can you explain a little more why you need a seperate tag for this? It seems like you should be able to just enter the room name and number directly into a zone.

Maybe you need a customized zone object that displays the text as need based on some sort of request function or something. I did something similar to this a long time ago by scripting a special zone object that would display as "brochure" text when a certain dispay option was active.
