      <description>&lt;DIV class="actalk-migrated-content"&gt;&lt;T&gt;In AC10, can you rotate an object in the 3D window around any axis, x, y, or z?  &lt;BR /&gt;
&lt;BR /&gt;
I thought I remember in the introduction to AC10 class that this was a new feature, however I can only seam to rotate around a single plane, same as the 2D window, or drawing window.  &lt;BR /&gt;
&lt;BR /&gt;
I have saved a loudspeaker as a library part, now I need to be able to hang it from the ceiling and rotate it down to point at the floor at about a 40 degree angle, or any angle for that matter.&lt;BR /&gt;
&lt;BR /&gt;
Am I stuck?  I thought this was a new feature of 10??&lt;BR /&gt;

      <description>The only way is if it is scripted into the object.&lt;BR /&gt;
You could edit the 3D script using the ROTX command&lt;BR /&gt;
eg ROTx number_of_degrees&lt;BR /&gt;
&lt;BR /&gt;
most likely at start of script&lt;BR /&gt;
&lt;BR /&gt;
The other option is to use a more generic shape the has been already scripted to do what you want, or make your own!!!&lt;BR /&gt;
 &lt;BR /&gt;
Something like that is a great way to start GDL experience&lt;BR /&gt;
look in manual under BLOCK command and ROT commands&lt;BR /&gt;
&lt;BR /&gt;
in the 2D script the simplest thing is to use the PROJECT2 command</description>

      <description>Wow, thanks John!  Unfortunately your reply is pretty much like Chinese Arithmatic to me, I don't understand a bit of it.  I haven't done anything at all with GDL.  When I open the object there is no 2D script, and only a little bit of 3D script.  I have no idea what the PROJECT2 command is??  &lt;BR /&gt;

I may have to devote some days soon when I'm not busy to figure this one out!  &lt;BR /&gt;

Could you post a screen shot of the 3D view&lt;BR /&gt;
with the axise turned on in the GDL editing environment.&lt;BR /&gt;
We need to see how the object is oriented relative the&lt;BR /&gt;
the X and Y axis in order to determine the correct &lt;BR /&gt;
rot commands.&lt;BR /&gt;

      <description>This is a major annoyance in Archicad elements and the main reason for users unfamiliar with GDL who wish to maintain billing rates to buy ArchiForma. Elements created with ArchiForma can rotate in the three axes with either numeric input or visual gestures.&lt;BR /&gt;

      <description>Everything starts with a fill shape and perhaps a path.&lt;BR /&gt;
It is easier to make objects than with Archicad and there are several visual editing methods depending on the element type.</description>

      <description>Hello Steve,&lt;BR /&gt;
Your image shows the object centered on the origin. This is good.&lt;BR /&gt;
In the parameter list create a new parameter, name it something like&lt;BR /&gt;
xrot or anything, select the parameter type as angle (you will recognize&lt;BR /&gt;
the icon), and type in a description in the text field something like &lt;BR /&gt;
"rotation about the X axis". Give the parameter some default value&lt;BR /&gt;
such as 45°.&lt;BR /&gt;
Open the 3D script and just before the the line that starts with cprism_&lt;BR /&gt;
type in the line rotx xrot. Note the space between rotx and xrot.&lt;BR /&gt;
Your object should rotate to the value you set in the parameter named xrot.&lt;BR /&gt;

You can give xrot any value plus of minus.&lt;BR /&gt;
You can create a yrot parameter as well.&lt;BR /&gt;
No need for a zrot because you can do this in the plan&lt;BR /&gt;
or in the lib part settings.&lt;BR /&gt;

Archicad merely makes connect-the-dots flat surfaces that are voids internally. Some other modelers, I am led to understand, pretend the inside is a mass. When you drive the camera in there, it is impossible to see.&lt;BR /&gt;

Also, a solid is "internally connected." It has rationality behaving as a physical plane or volume. When you bend a solid, it distorts as an object, not as a series of connected nodes in space that can do anything. For instance, my studio is in the process of aquiring CATIA because we are planning a series of distorted sheet metal sculptures and want to control the curvature derived from flat cut sheets. You simply cannot do this in Archicad because the relationships aren't "solid."&lt;BR /&gt;
&lt;BR /&gt;
I just did my first curved sheet metal project - one that we are installing in Denver in two weeks. The way I did it in Archicad was to lay out the panels and print them. Then we cut the panels out and built a model to see how they went together. No way to accurately loft the flat panels in the application..... got to get those bolt holes lining up.&lt;BR /&gt;
&lt;BR /&gt;
BTW: it is also absurd that to send instructions to the waterjet guy I had to make Adobe Illustrator files, if you can believe it.</description>

Surface modeling software makes surfaces like a net made from&lt;BR /&gt;
sticks connected by ball and socket hinges that if made physically&lt;BR /&gt;
would collapse in a heap. Not helpful if you want to build something&lt;BR /&gt;
