is this wishful thinking?</T>

If the Library Parts are named the same between versions you could try unloading your AC9 Library and then loading your AC10 Library. Then see if there are any conflicts.

I would recommend trying this on a COPY of your original project file.

Most of the AC9 library parts (at least the SE version here in the US) read just fine using the AC10 library. This is based on the GUID system (using an internal index number) so the names don't have to match. I have converted several projects with minimal trouble. There were a very small number of parts that didn't have AC10 equivalents, but there were so few that it was trivial to redo them. Of course DO NOT load both libraries together.

It is always prudent to archive a project before conversion, but I have found no significant problems due to the libraries. There is a problem with with some windows in profiled walls but this is due to a macro that is the same in both 9 and 10 (I posted a fix somewhere around here - but I'm too tired to look up the link).

This is the principle with AC:
Never change the origin. Lib.!!!
Lib. is always independant package (outside files) from AC itself.
This is also for the case of update.
PLN from AC9 must be used with AC10 (because AC10 is much much better), but never change the lib. package from origin.

One problem I've found with using the AC9 library in 10 is this:
<S></S><LINK_TEXT text="http://archicad-talk.graphisoft.com/vie ... ght=#65763">http://archicad-talk.graphisoft.com/viewtopic.php?p=65763&highlight=#65763</LINK_TEXT><E></E>

This is a bit of a pain, as every single job in our office uses sash windows, and the sash windows can't have their frame and sash materials separately defined. Grrrrr. Also, sash windows are one of the only library parts I've found that don't convert from 9 to 10.

I've also had a problem with Door D2 - it converts to an AC10 part, and shows in plan, but gives error messages when showing in 3D, if I keep pressing the 'continue' button in the error, the door eventually shows, but with only 1 panel? Trim, frame, handle are all there, but 1 panel is missing. Maybe some sort of macro problem I guess.

Other than that, everything has been converting fine.

thanks for the advice about not switching the libraries but too late

I'm realizing I might have made a huge mistake when I installed 10, openened up my 9 file and just started working, adding some objects from 10 as I went, I have no idea why but my file has become incredibly unstable and is crashing all the time, I use a mac and I am not acustomed to archicad ever crashing,

can conflicts from 10 and 9 libraries and duplicate names and objects really make my archicad crash at seemingly random moments sometimes quite frequently?

Are you converting projects that used the Standard AC9 Library or the SE (Special Edition) Library?

Just noticed that you are not in the US, so the SE library (which I believe was US) does not apply.

Was having the same problem. Contacted my reseller. Following is the their suggestion. I tried it, and it works. After I did all this, I combined the library generated from the .pla file with the specific project library. I do have some duplicates, but it does work. Have not figured out how to get rid of the duplicate library parts easily, however.

So here is what you do:
1) Save project as PLA (The project before migrating)
2) Do not check the load all pieces of the library because you only need those objects that are in the project.
3) Save the pla file to the location where you put your project specific libraries
4) Once you launch the PLA file for the first time, it will prompt you to save a new file so save this new file as a pln
5) Activate the PLA as a library along with the other libraries you wish to use when you open the V10 .pln.

For more information on proper archiving of projects, go to the help menu and search all topics for archiving a project. There is also good information about this at www.archicadwiki.com.

Good luck.
