Stairs often have problems with SEOs. Without knowing the specifics of your problem, the sure fire method would be to model some operators that you know will work for the SEOs (roofs, slabs, etc) and put them on a hidden layer.

Stair Maker Object

<T>I am having difficulty getting a custom stair object to act as an operator in a Solids operation. I would like a wall to enclose the area under the stairs and the stair doesn't appear to want to subtract the wall with upward extrusion. Any ideas or suggestions?
What kind of stair? StairMaker? Archistair? Custom GDL?

SEOs require well formed solid elements to work properly. It is possible that your stair has some planar or improper solids (ie self-crossing) that are interfering with the function.

Matthew, Thanks for the response. I mentioned it in the topic title and I should have been more clear in the post. It is a StairMaker object that the "check stair" routine says is "Otay". I have set it for a subtraction with an upward extrusion to remove all of the wall above the undercarriage stringers of the stair and it is being very stubborn. Any ideas?

If you can't get the stair to work as an operator you may have to revert to the old trick of placing a roof as needed to do the subtraction for you. Another option would be to see if there is a stair part in the library that would do the trick.

One thing I might do in this situation is duplicate the stair and drop the copy in the same spot as the original. Modify that stair and make it simple by turning off railings, etc. but retain the original shape until it will cut the wall. Perform the SEO. Place the copy on a layer that will always stay hidden like an operator layer. It's a hack and it might not work but maybe.
