As a tip: if you save the whole building as an object, there will be a lot of CALL statements in that object calling all the library parts for objects, door, windows etc. This means, unless you have the library loaded in the project you place the object in, parts will be missing. At least it worked this way the last time I used this method.

An alternative way is to save your file (important or you might lose work) and then convert the whole thing to morph. You can relink the morphs to story 0, merge them in to single morphs etc. I found this approach to work just as easy as having the object, without having to worry about missing object links.

But most of the time I make a special published module of the building that I can use in other files. If the story settings are different, I set up an in between step PLN where I move the module stories as needed and save out a 2nd module from that. Because nested modules are updated, I pretty much only need to set this file up once and never come back there.

<T>Hi!

I hope this is the right board for this.

In the project I'm currently involved in I have to hotlink several buildings (around 20 buildings to be exact) into a master file for illustrations. Since hotlinking models is pretty heavy filesize-wise one of my colleagues told me that you could make your model into an object/library part in earlier versions of ArchiCAD. But, after googling and trying it out ourselves we can't seem to make that happen. All we get is a 2D symbol.

So, is this possible? And if so, how fix it?
If not, how would you proceed?

Thanks!
Does this work in ArchiCAD 21? Because we've tried this and can't seem to get it to work.
We've tried:
- Axonometric view (Top) > Save as... > *.gsm
- Axonometric view (Bottom) > Save as... > *.gsm
- Axonometric view (Side) > Save as... > *.gsm
- Axonometric view (Top) > Mark all > Save selection as > Object

All I'm getting is a 2D symbol of the floorplan... What am I doing wrong?

Try selecting what you want in 3D window, then... FILE menu > Libraries and Objects > Save Selection as Library Part > Object
Apparently the railings I had in my model seems to have been to complex (?) or something similar because after removing them it all started working. That's a bit of an issue but one that I might be able to fix I think.
Thanks for all the help guys!
