<T>Hi there;

I recently downloaded Infill Screen.PLA from Objects Online.
I'm attempting to use the Infill Screen object to create chain link fence models for a parking garage.

I am able to put together a pretty good fence, after inputting lots of parameters; the problem is, when I exit and restart AC, the part shows up as a fuzzy dot on the plan, and can't be found by Library Manager. When I direct Library Manager to the part, I have to start all over again inputting all the many parameters.

Needless to say this is getting frustrating.

Anyone else have this problem?

Much thanks in advance.

I am no stranger to chaos, my friend. Which is why I am scrupulous with Libraries; I place all objects within a Master Library which I load with every project. I also use a job-specific library for job-specific parts.

So if there is a part, it should be loading.

Thanks for your reply,
Have you extracted the PLA into a folder?

Maybe it needs to write something (text I/O) into a file, which is not found , when you reload?

Is the object proofed for your AC version? What says the reseller of the object?
Does it work with a plain project (new and rebuilt) without any other library? (Duplicate file names)

Just some thoughts about it.

Thanks F.
Answers, in order:
- The PLA has been extracted.
- "Writing to a file that is not found" fits the description of what's happening.
- I doubt the Object has been proofed for the latest version of 9.0; how can one determine if an object has been proofed for a particular version? But certainly, writing to a file is apretty basic function, and the file/Library tree I'm using is not exotic.
- I have not heard from Objects Online - I have not contacted them directly yet.
- I have not tried working with loading only with this object to the PLN file. Not sure what would happen.
Thanks for you help!
Right-click on the object in the explorer -> information. Then on tab info/version: 17 is ArchiCAD 7, 20 is ArchiCAD 8.x, 21 is ArchiCAD 9.

If you can look inside the scripts, have a look for (find) GLOB_MODPAR_NAME and NAME_OF_PROGRAM. There have been bugs in AC with this statements. The last one was used to check on which platform the object is running. Maybe this does not work correct. A blind guess.
Just "open object" and "save as". If you are working with AC9 (have a look at your signature) you can use AC9 too.

Dennis

I have not kept up with Archicad talk for quite a while, and just happened to come upon this thread when I was looking for something else. Sorry about the slow response - (you had the problem back in January).

I have just tried to reproduce the problem but it works OK for me even though the object was made back in AC6 an I am now using AC9 and have not updated/resaved the object in the current version.

I think your problem might stem from the fact that this object uses calls for macro objects, and you have to be careful to place the macro objects in the same library along with the main object. Missing macros would generate the error message you are getting.

The macro objects should have been generated in the library that was created when you opened the PLA. If you have misplaced them through library reorganisation (easy to do) I can send them to you again.
