topic can Values list be read from external file? in Libraries & objects

<T>Hi = I am attempting to generate a drop down list of predefined acceptable choices for a parameter, with the list taken from the contents of an external file

I can achive a list using Values command, and typing all acceptable values directly in the values statement

I can also read the contents of an external file and map these to an array

I can't seem to get GDL to accept a values statement that uses an array variable, using a loop to read each progressive acceptable value from external file however

Should this be possible?

How else could I attack it?

Hope someone can help!</T>

If you look in the "Steel Sections Text Files 81" folder in the "MACROS 81" folder of the expanded "ArchiCAD Library 81" - you will see ".GDL" files that are actually text files. These text files are used to populate VALUES lists in all of the Steel Section objects in the ArchiCAD Library (US version).

Great tip! Example like that is exactly what I needed to see.

I had already been trying to use array, but the breakthrough was knowing how to reference (without index) in the Values statement !

Thank you very much!
