For a new user who wants to learn GDL I would suggest:
"Object Making with ArchiCAD"
"Project Framework"
"GDL Cookbook"

To learn more about these:

<T>I want to learn how to create new library parts. I thought that I would start by creating a few beds based on the "Bed Double 01" that exist in the ArchiCAD 8 library. I want to create a king and queen sized beds for my current project.

The problem that I am having is find a simple straight "how to" set of instructions for creating a library part. I looked in the ArchiCAD 8 help menu but couldn't find a start to finish set of instructions on creating a library part from an existing library part.

Could somebody please point me toward some instructions or write them here?

Thank you,
John

PS Why isn't ArchiCAD in this forum's SpellCheck?</T>

1. Open the Part. ("File/GDL Objects/Open Object..." from the pull-down menu)
2. While in the Object Editor window, select "File/Save As..." from the pull-down menu and name it (with a unique name).
3. Edit at will.

David,
That was just what I was looking for. Next I want to learn to create library parts from scratch or from other elements. I would like to learn how to make a door. Is there a set of instructions for something like creating a door?
Thank you,
I'll start with one of these. Which one would be best as a starting point?
Thank you,
To start off, I would recommend the "Object Making with ArchiCAD". It was written to use with AC 6.5/7.0 but most of the basics of GDL haven't changed much since then. It's a good start for beginners.

If you are planning on diving into GDL head-first I would highly recommend the "GDL Cookbook" (If you can find a copy). It is a very useful resource for anyone working in GDL.
