No, depending upon how you have your translator set-up. As long as you do NOT set the translator to "Explode complex ArchiCAD Elements" the GDL Objects will automatically translate into AutoCAD Blocks.

<T>We are an A/E firm that runs Archicad for architecture and Autocad for our engineering. I am familiar in running translations but am having a problem with some of my objects.

When saving out to Autocad, objects with text assigned in the GDL code come in correctly, but any variable text entered in the parameters window is coming into the autocad drawing in a different location. Is there a way to fix this with my code or a translation suggestion? </T>

Which version of AC are you using?

In AC7.0 we reported a bug to GS that the defined anchor point in GDL text was being ignored and set to left-justified when translated to .DWG format. I believe this is what you are experiencing.

I haven't tested AC8.* yet. If you are running AC8.* and are experiencing the bug that they have not fixed it yet... Bummer!

I just tested AC8.1 and it looks like GS fixed the bug!

If you are on an older version, I would recommend upgrading!

As David said, it is fixed. Furthermore, the GDL objects can be translated straight into blocks, with the visible (and in cas of zones hodden too) attributes present and editable.

It is getting smarter ...

I have used the objects in 6.5 (our current version in use) and the text came in to the correct location but did not update the properties to by-layer. In trying to see if this operation now worked in 8.0 (we are currently evaluating for upgrades), I got the relocated text.

I like the idea of the Autocad block but am unsure of how to do this. Do I need to create a block with the same name and use it in a template to carry this information across in translation?

You have to have the layers and the DWG template defined in order for the BYLAYER option to work.
