My office does a lot of low income housing and use vinyl POS windows all the time.

There is no window that looks like that in section. If there were, I think the rebuild time would be intolerable.

We've been using the Smart Parts windows, mostly because we found them to be a little friendlier than the Archicad windows. They look decent at 1/4" scale in section.

For larger scale, we set the display options to hide windows, then place a 2D object that actually is a vinyl window profile in the opening.

I don't see basic standard US aluminum and/or vinyl windows (similar in profile) for single hung and sliders with the interior finish (drywall) wrapping into the window opening (no casings).
Since you're a new member (and complained elsewhere about not getting responses to your posts - on this entirely volunteer, user-to-user, forum), let me repeat what is in the forum user info:

Please post your version of ArchiCAD, if you are in the US also post the library you are using, and finally, post your OS. Put this info into your profile signature (concisely). You must realize that people here are using versions of ArchiCAD as old as 6.5 (probably earlier, too, but too embarassed to mention it!). The answers depend on what you are running.

Are you using 9.0 build 2172 and did you download the October US Special Edition 9 library (which replaces the 9 library on the installation CD)? If not, do so. If so, give an example window from the library that you have problems with.

Welcome to ac-talk.

Karl, I've updated my profile per your post...not sure if 1812 is the build, got that number from the help>About Archicad dropdown.

I could not find a single hung window under metal windows, so went to the wood/plastic windows, and used window W Single Hung1 SE9. Is there some way to show that like a typical aluminum or vinyl window that is placed in a drywall opening, with the window flush to the front (no problem doing that), then drywall (no frame) from the inside sash face to the inside face of the wall opening.

I realize the importance and appreciate the help from y'all who are experienced in Archicad and helping out on this forum and apologize for being offensive.

Sorry for my short fuse today...

The W Single Hung1 SE9 can have the brick mold/casement turned off, the interior/ext sills/stool turned off and the frame/sash dimensions adjusted to look like what you want - pretty much. At least in elevation/section.

Changing the frame width leaves the sash "floating" away from the frame. More bugs than I've seen in a long time... I can fake it by seting a negative sash setback in the Sash Frame parameters...

Stud Wall with Siding or Stud Wall as the wall type seems to work in my example composite wall. (Solid Wall gives odd extra lines in plan.)

I assume it is an enlarged plan, or a plan-view detail that you want to show the wrapped gyp board? I don't believe there's a way to get just the gyp (1 skin of a composite) to wrap into the opening. A great wishlist item, as this is so common.

I hope somebody else has a better solution ... I got the gyp to show properly in the screenshot by using the Patch tool. Having created one patch (2D GDL symbol), it could be mirrored onto the other side of the window ... or all similar windows. But, being 2D and not associative (i.e., a crutch), the patch has to be manually moved or updated as the window openings are changed. [The composite shown below is 1/2 ply outside and 1/2" gyp inside.]

Hope that helps,
I'm okay with a simple generic representation of an alum/vinyl window...the main thing is that there is an option to return the wall finish (i.e. drywall) into the window opening. Does Smart Parts offer this option or do you still have to patch like Karl suggested when using the Archicad SE library?

I'm also okay with the idea of replacing the generic/simple window profile with an actual alum/vinyl section as you suggest in your post, that is really a good suggestion. More than likely once a few of those (details) are drawn and saved there would rarely be a time when an actual true representation for the window section comes up.

I the new SE library is a lot better about wall interation than SmartParts.

In our case, it's more that getting 25 people to use a new window object is nearly impossible. First learned first remembered <E>😞</E>

Josephus,

I wonder if CadImage's Door and Window Builder does what you want, with regards to turning wall finishes in. I use it, but not to that degree of detail. Maybe someone else who does can expand on this.

In the attached image it shows skins returning into the opening, interior and exterior faces of the wall. (note that this image was used for another posting, so is not specific for this).
