Rob,

I think you are stuck doing a custom door for this condition. Build it with slabs, walls, etc. Make a slab with an ID of wallhole to get the correct cutout.

Look at the manual for specifics.

I'm familiar with making a custom door panel with slabs but how or where do I make the "ID with wall cut out" variable read properly? I saw a tip somewhere a while back which had a real ornate window design circular I think it was and it was placed in a wall and the wall around the circular window fitted perfectly around the window frame. I think that's the I.D. comment you made but not quite sure how to set that.

Hello Rob,
After you have built your window in the plan, make one more slab
that is the exact shape of the outside of your window frame and is
positioned exactly in the same place as the frame. Give this slab the ID
"Wallhole" and save the assembly as a window object. You don't have
to edit the script because there will be a wallhole command in the script.
The ID is set in the info pallet box in the text field labeled "ID" which is
usually a number that you change to read "Wallhole" (without the quotes)
ok..the custom door was done with a simple "slab" then saved as a "custom component" but I'm not sure what the process is for having the door opening follow the door shape? it's that "I.D." additional slab I have to have but....where/how/when/at what point do I need to add that "I.D." variable in the saving process?

interior trim and exterior trim. Please see this thread.
I must be as dense as a bag of rocks...
I did all that you suggested.
Create a door panel using a slab.
created a frame using beams (simply profile 2x4 frame).
created another slab for use with the wall I.D. hole.
when I selected all 3 parts, and went thru the steps...it captured the objects yet...the only that is show in 3d and in plan is the wall opening.
Neither the door nor the frames show up......like I said....there's just some minut step I'm missing I'm sure.

I can believe a simple beveled top door is taking this long.
My boss is gonna hang me by a tree for burning so much project time.

Hello Rob,
Are you building your door centered on
the project origin and on the first story ?
If you build on any other story the door
elements will be displaced and appear
far away from the wall they are supposed to be in.
Should I be building the door "centered" on the project "X" origin 'AND' also on the first floor???
P.S. It is safest to model your door in a new project
and use only slabs.

OK, it's all looking good now...with a few exceptions...

by the way..I don't think anywhere on the Archicwiki's nor the tutuorials does it say you MUST put the slabs, beams etc..on the project origin of "X"...so that's an important step NOT to skip.

So..now that I have my custom door object put in plan...how do I get the door to show a swing? How do I get the door to show "open in 2d mode"?
How do I get my door to be the right size?
it appears that there is a small discrepancy between the size of the door and where it's shown in plan? How?

Hello Rob,
To edit the 2D symbol do what Master Script says to do.

"EXTRA: MODIFY YOUR 2D REPRESENTATION
8 Select the placed window and choose File/Libraries and Object/Open object.
9 Select the 2D symbol and adjust the representation using 2D tools.
IMPORTANT: do not draw outside the windows' width
10 Close the Object window and save or choose save from the top menu."

The door size can be adjusted by changing the "A" dimension in the
parameter list.
Your welcome .
I have a question for you.
Have you found that you needed to make
a parametric trapezoid door or window ?
I have found I needed both and made both.
They can make a four sided or five sided trapezoid shape.
I notice the AC library has a trapezoid window but no door.
I wonder why not.
Cheers,
Peter,

Yes, I have had need of both the trapezoidal window and door from time to time, particularly in my current office. I started adding that ability to my doors awhile ago but haven't finished yet - thankfully the office is getting a bit busier lately.

But the standard library should certainly have this as an option. Particularly in a program by architects for architects.
