JAY -

I don't blame you for throwing up your arms, it's really torture to work all day and get nothing for your effort. But if you won't do it who will? I don't hear others on this forum, except perhaps Matthew, taking an interest in the SE9 library. If you don't tell Graphisoft and others where problems exist, how do you ever expect to get the issues resolved; when it is standard to AC10 and you have no choice?

After my earlier post I went back to work and opened the standard 9 library, where I was also unable to find a single casement arch top window, which is probably why it does not exist in the SE9 library. No one ever thought of it then, no one is thinking of it now. That is why Graphisoft needs to phone the Anderson rep in Bay Port, Minnesota, and get a catalog.

Left with no alternative, I had no choice, but to open my Cadimage DoorWindow Library. I was avoiding this move because after upgrading the Cadimage library in December to 3.5r15 it had been crashing AC every time I entered the window height in it's dialog box, however, Cadimage assured me that if I entered the height in the AC "Parameters" dialog everything would be okay.

I was able to format a single casement arch top window with a 6 lite grill in about an hour, that fairly closely matched the other casement windows I had formated with the SE9 library.

However, all is not hunky-dory.

Whereas in the SE9 library I was unable to do a drywall return, the Cadimage DoorWindow library actually has a dialog that will accomplish this called "Wall Skins", how about that Graphisoft. In the SE9 library I was able to format a wood interior sill with and apron trim, but in the Cadimage library I could only format the wood sill with no apron trim..... bummer.

The difference between the two libraries is that Graphisoft supplies a window object, about 70 of them, from which you modify the parameters. In the Cadimage library there are very few window AC parameters, instead you build the window object through the Cadimage interface and then store the object as an office window for future use, much like the stair object tool in ArchiCAD.

The display characteristics of the SE9 library are better then the Cadimage library, but I think, overall, the Cadimage library is easier to use. It's more intuitive. But I sure like the way SE9 library windows look.

Would be nice to have this feature. I am fairly new to ArchiCAD and have used the Special Edition library on all of my projects to this point. I wouldn't know if other regular ArchiCAD9 features that could save time are missing. I know it's not easy to convert a plan to use the regular library elements. Are there any side by side comparisons of features that can help new users choose which library to use?

Thanks,
The se9 library parts have more features than the standard library. I use it regularly; down side is the wall thickness feature. I'm sure there must be a setting for frame = thickness, but it's hidden pretty well.

This library is from GS and is the update/replacement for the standard library.

Definitely consider contacting GS US support with questions. But, we might be able to help you more here if your question were more specific: which window/door doesn't work for you - and perhaps a screenshot of what is showing up wrong in plan? (My frame depths match my wall depths out of the box on the doors and windows I've tried from SE9.)

Cheers,
One would think so, but I haven't found it either. I assume that it is not available for wood doors (it's there as a check box for D1 Metal). This is a major pain and really should be added. I assume that there are some complications making it work in all circumstances (ie various wall types & geometries, trim conditions, etc.)

Which doors have you tried? I can't find any setting for it in any of the wood doors. It also appears to be off by default in the metal doors. I am wondering how yours have been working "out of the box".

This is a common approach, but is not used in the SE library. As a GDL programmer I prefer the check box. Resetting the parameter to 0 is sooo 90's.

Attached is a screen shot of two D.H. windows in a 12" thick wall.

#1. I placed by using the default frame depth right out of the box. The frame is 4.5". An extension jamb is added automatically but, the frame does not mathe the wall thickness.

#2. I manually changed the frame depth to 12" prior to placing in the wall. This matches the wll thickness.

I have noticed other anomilies as well, such as: changing the construction method from edge to reveal and then back again. If you do this. the brick moulding automatically offsets in the opposite direction when going from edge to reveal then won't correct upon changing back to edge. I do 90% remodel/renovation design which does make a difference when going from as-built to new.

Thanks,
This thread is similar to my comment last week when I posted that I was unable to make a drywall return using the SE9 window library. If you reduce the widow frame width to less then the wall width then a jamb extension is automatically applied to the jamb frame. Setting the jamb extension to zero, "a sooo reto 90's workaround", causes ArchiCAD to crash; the solution is .001. This, however, only minimizes the jamb extension, it does not eliminate it.

This seems strange to me as the SE9 library was billed as a USA library. A drywall jamb return with a wood sill and apron is probably the most common interior window finish used in USA production housing. In my custom work, many clients like 5/8" drywall with a 2" bullnose return used in combination with a 2x6 exterior wood stud wall. I can't do that with with the SE9 library.

My question is this: why doesn't Graphisoft hire USA consultants to design USA libraries? I am not being sarcastic here, have you ever look through the objects library, half the crap in it I have never seen, and half the window objects are not in any USA catalog I have ever used. My advice to Graphisoft, just call up an Anderson window rep, get a catalog, and copy it. You will have 99% of all USA window configurations in your hands. It's really not that hard to do, a no brainer, if you just try.
