Installing windows/doors

Archicad incorrectly installs windows and doors. Or, at least there is no window with a veneer finish where the brick turns back correctly into wall. Is there something to correct this so the the 3D fuction(which was the selling point of this program) of not having to re-draw or draw on top of detail in 2D?

I think I know the condition you are trying to achieve, but can you post a screen shot of the results you are actually getting? Then maybe I (or someone else) can tell you how to change what you have done so far.

This condition is handled by the window part parameters, typically under "Cavity Closure". Unfortunately the two that I just tried (from the AC10 library) did not work properly on a cursory test. Perhaps there is a way to tweak them, or there may be other windows that work better.

The only window that I have found that does anything similar is a casement wondow in which brick is turned back into window frame.

I asked archicad instructor and she did not know that brick did this in construction and this is the most common method that I have experience with. Nobody in my office, including those who have used archicad for years do not know how to correct issue.

It must be possible as mentioned above in aother condition as it is done with casement windows.

On further checking I find that I not only cannot get a proper brick return (including the casement window) but some of the settings produce truly strange results.

The problem appears to be in the 2D scripts as the 3D is unaffected.

In my experience this detail is rather uncommon since it is hard to convince developers to spend the extra money to punch the windows deeper into the wall.

What type of windows do you work with? Wood, steel, alum, double hung, casement, storefront, etc?

how do you show installing windows and doors and covering up the gap left by archicad, if window is not installed as defaulted by program, but closer to interior?

A lot of the developer work I've seen uses a simple pressure treated wood frame to cover the air gap that is then caulked. The Archicad windows (and the SmartParts windows that I prefer) handle that condition pretty easily since there is no return to deal with,

I know the AC10 windows have a lot of new options for dealing with brick but I have not played with them much,

The CADImage Wall Accessory Tool can add in the type of brick return you are talking about. It's been a while since I've used it, but I seem to remember it working pretty well.

It depends on the construction details, window libraries and graphic standards of the firm. There are too many variations to go into here.

The Archicad windows, yes, they come with the program.
SmartParts is an add-on library. It used to be much more useful than the AC windows (and doors and trim and furniture, etc) were. I have not checked out the AC10 library enough to say if that's still the case,

That would be a custom library part. I haven't been able to get the standard parts to do this.

There might be a cruddy workaround using the wall end tool, but I don't really even want to think about that.

CadImage Door and Window Builder also has option to return skins of walls.
