UGH!

I still can't get it to work, I did exactly what you said (I think)

I set the opening direction under the general tab to "inside".

I think clicked on the wall where I want the do to go, then I clicked on the exterior of the wall AND the doors swing inside like I want them to, so I didn't have to flip the door.

The problem is that the material settings are backwards. If I want the out side of the door to be green and the inside red, I have to choose red for the outside material and green for the inside material.

I could deal with this if all I cared about was how it looked in the model, but I am trying to utilize this specificity to create a paint schedule for my painter to work from and this screws up my whole plan.

What am I missing?

Also, I am working on three drawings at once and I thought I had downloaded the most recent SE9 Library for all three but there is a difference in my window and door settings from one file to the next.

The difference is that I can select inside and outside materials for the window and door in one of the plans and in the other I only have the choice for the whole panel (no distinguishing between inside and outside).

These little idiosyncrasies are real time killers and wear me out.

Can anyone help me out here?

Please see the attached to get a visual of what is happening on my PC

<T>I must be doing something wrong but I am baffled. When I place a door and I want the door to open to the inside, I set the door under the custom settings parameters to opne inside.

The weird thing is I have to click on the outside of my wall when placing the door to get the swings to go inside.

Then the materials are aopposite. When using different materials for the inside and outside (say when I want to paint the outside of the door one color and the inside a different color) I have to set the interior panel color to be the material I want the color I want for the exterior and vice versa in order to get it to show correctly in 3d.

Anyone else encountered this?

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks</T>

Are you using the new SE9 Library? Place the door such that your wall materials, door casings, etc. are properly oriented. Then go to the "Preview and Positioning" tab and select "Flip" located in the upper lefthand corner of the tab. The door swing will changed direction and the materials, casings, etc will stay in place.

Thanks

Let me make sure I understand you correctly.

1. Set the door like I want it in the within thw window tool. Set the door to open to the inside in the same location.

2. Place a door like I normally would by clicking on a wall and then on the interior of my house to get the doors to swing inward

3. Once the door is plaed, the doors will be swinging outward to the outside of the building, so I have to hit the flip door button to get the swing correct.

Did I get that right?>

If this is what I have to do, wouldn't this be a glitch? It doesn't make any sense to me why I would have to do this.

Thanks agin for taking the time to respond

Vincon2,

Yes. You click the eyeball to the side of the wall that is to be treated as "exterior" for the purposes of cladding, brickmould, etc.

In the case of doors, this will cause the door to swing outside (the hinge will be to whichever side of the opening you click the eyeball, as always).

Then, to get the door to swing inside (but leave the exterior surfaces outside), you click the flip button with the door selected. It is convenient to move the flip button higher in your Info box via the Work Environment to make this easier.
