Absolutely everything? 2D content in elevations and sections? Schedules? There can be a lot of data in all of the different views. There is a thread somewhere around here regarding creating a lean template or something similar.

I was given an Archicad file which is quite heavy; it takes a long time to open, and even Copy/Paste operations are also very slow. (There are imported foreign 3D models in the file.)

I deleted absolutely everything in the file, but nothing has changed. File is still very slow. is there any way/method I can use to make such a file faster?

Operating system used: Windows

Hi,

Firstly I'd open an empty Archicad then go to open - and click open and repair file. That function should optimize it slightly.

However, if the the 3D models are geometry-heavy and non-native there is not much you can do (that I know of) - just request a simplified model from your collaborators (LOD 300 or lower). If you have complex machinery (ex HVAC equipment) for example, you can use a place holder instead (a slab that has WxLxH) to symbolize that piece of equipment.

And you may also try and remove 3D Axonometries, Layouts, etc.

More info: https://www.graphisoft.com/us/understanding-what-contributes-to-archicad-file-size

Attribute Purging for Fills and Lines that aren't being used may also clear up some of the speed issue.

Some of the autocad created attributes (if you had a survey dwg, as an example) can really bog down the archicad project efficiency.

And I echo the suggestion of removing unnecessary schedules that can also be sabotaging the file.
