Some timber objects bundled with OBJECTiVE provide this option (see the attached image). PS To see an 'x' in a section, use a complex profiled beam.  For the profile, take a rectangular fill of the desired size.  Use the split command to break it diagonally into four triangular fills.  Assign two of the opposing triangles a different fill.  (If the fills are not different, they will be merged when you save the profile.)  All beams drawn with the result will show the desired 'x'.  I assume the student version can do complex profiles.  (The Start edition cannot.)</description>
