this problem could be related to the different layers/floors

Footing layer on esection….floor next and there is also a roof layer I used for ant capping

it looks like the layers are not alighning up correctly, for 2D and 3D mode.

i can email the actual project file becaues its too big for the forum.. the 2D figure below doesn't correctly alighn with the 3G view. The beam and footings are not dissplayed in the correct position... thanks for your help

<T>I am currently doing the 6 week ArchiCad Course at tafe…and I need some help. Im revising the work we have done in class at home and Im stuck on trying to position the beam in the correct place on the plan. After I have drawn the beam in the 2d plan view I view it in 3d view and the beam is not on top of the pier where I have positioned it in 2d mode…its all the way on another area of the screen, so I than drag it to place it on top of the peir to be in the correct position in 3d but when I go back in 2d mode to continue working its no longer on top of the peir and I don’t understand why…ive made sure im working in the correct storey ive checked all my figures were correct in the beam tool and I cant seam to work out why its doing that…I continued drawing the floor and I have the same problem with the floor when I draw it ontop of the beams in the correct position in 2d and I view it after in 3d its not it the spot I have placed it…its so frustrating because ive tried so many times but I can’t seam to work out why its doing that??

I would appreciate it if someone can talk me through what im doing wrong.

Looking forward to someones reply.

If u require an attachement so i can show u what i mean please let me know.</T>

An attachment would certainly help. They also do.

Was the beam created using the Beam tool, or is it an object?

Cheers,
I would recommend checking the alignment in section. Maybe be more specific in explaining how it is not lining up, and include a screenshot. You can also copy those parts, save it as a module from clipboard, then zip it up and upload it here.

Cheers,

Aussie wrote:
Daniela - Can you make a copy of your file a strip out all of the extras to make it smaller?

daniela - select the beam and footing elements that are not aligning and choose File>External Content>Save Selection As Module...

that will make a really small file containing just the elements that are causing the problem. be sure to 'zip' it because this forum only accepts zipped and image file uploads. then we can better see what the issue might be...

just a quick thought though: what kind of projection are you using in 3D? if that is some weird axonometry going on, you may what to check the elevations of each element: select a footing element and check the 't' (top) value in your info box, then select the beam and check the 'b' (bottom) value . . . they should be identical if the beam is meant to be sitting on top of the footing . . .
