License uploading of non available computers

Hi,

I guess this is a common issue, but what happens, if a computer get is physically unavailable (like destroyed, data purged or user is on vacation etc.) and one needs the Software key downloaded to that computer. There are many possibilities when this happens.

Is it possible to upload the to the unavailable computer downloaded license from, like, Graphisoft License Management or any other administering platform?

Software licenses must be manually returned from the machine they have been uploaded to.

If that machine is no longer available, then the only hope is to have Graphisoft support release the license back to your company pool.

Cloud licenses are different.

The administrator of the company pool can recall the license at any time.

Also, any user who has a license assigned to him can log on to Graphisoft website and release the license himself, even if he's not using the computer the license is tied to at the moment. That can be handy if the company's administrator is offline, but the user himself is online, even if away from his work machine.

I have a software license that I use on another laptop that is currently not running.

If I log into GrapfisoftID, I can see that license is being used by me on that machine, but I see no way to return it to the company pool.

But, I am also the administrator of those licenses.

As administrator, I can re-assign the license to someone else, but I am not sure if that will return the license to the pool for that new person to use.

I am not going to try that as I don't want to mess anything up.

How would you do that? There is no option like that in Graphisoft License Management under Software keys. You can only see history list when the license was downloaded or uploaded from the computer.

It can't be done with software keys.

They must be returned from the machine that they were loaded onto.

BTW if i understand it well, the license is per-computer and not per-user, so if an user's computer is physically available, logging on to their name (having another user) is a good solution.

Users forgotten on vacation is more common than a computer physically not available, so it's a modus vivendi.

Can you clarify this. I have uploaded using a different AC user, but I have not tried a different Computer user. Would not be surprised if the licence was stored in the user folder...
